Too bad. You might have liked some of the stuff they had for sale there:

Anyway, mrs non-fixie and I just got back from Saumur. I've mentioned before that the 10,000 tickets were sold out within a couple of hours, and I now know why. It's a lot of fun for just a few euros.

The concept is somewhat different from L'Eroica. Here, the bike seems mostly an excuse to be relentlessly nostalgic. Put on a a flowery dress, a funny hat, grab any old bike from the shed, check if the wheels still turn and you're good to go.

We had a nice view of the venue from our hotel across the river Loire, which is impressive by itself:

Nice stuff at the jumble sale:

The one I wanted, however, could not count on the budget owner's approval :

Waiting for the start of Sunday's ride:

typical "AVV" tools: old bike, water bottle, wine glass - to be filled at every stop (we had 6 in both the 60k on Saturday and the 40k on Sunday):

The French take lunch seriously. Even with 10,000 participants. You sit at a table:

And get three courses. Main, cheese and dessert. And wine, of course.

The pork sausage, BTW, was exceptionally nice. I would like to thank whoever made those:

Saw some nice bikes along the way, too. Like this Paris:

And these, from a well-known shop in the Rue Victor Hugo:

And to top it off, we got to enjoy a couple of drinks with @MiloFrance and Bob (thanks guys!). And, I got to wear my favorite Tee:

A friend of mine was at La Mitica a couple three weeks ago. He said something similar, but lumped L'Eroica into the bunch too. His exact quote

Sad news, I'm afraid. The organizers of La Superba have announced the following:

Management summary: life and other stuff got in the way and we'll be back next year. I'll put it in the yet to be conceived thread "European events 2020".

I tend to agree. Whether that's a bad thing, however, remains to be seen. If it means more interest among new generations in keeping old bikes alive and on the road, it might actually be good. (** trying hard not to be an old fart**)

Not a bad thing, but there is less emphasis on the bike, any old pos will do. I like seeing the interesting and unusual bikes too.

Very much off topic but readers of this post seem like they might have some insight on this.....I want to ship a bike from one part of Italy to another. What companies offer this service ? How much would it cost? Size limits? You can send a PM or I can start a new post if consensus thinks that’s better. Thanks

I don't have any direct answer, but perhaps a local member, like @CrowSeph could give us some insight in the local options? I can see how this information could be beneficial to people who'd like to do multiple events in Italy. They have quite a few nice ones. So this is a good a thread as any, I would say.

Una tripletta ! Or hat trick to me! A quick answer from BF, a person in the right region of Italy, and I need to write a paragraph for Italian class! But first I must ride.

Sorry, no. Not this time. However, I would like to have a go at it someday. What route are you doing?

And since we're back on page 1, I might as well ask: who'll be at the BF C&V meet-up in Gaiole?

Would be nice, but business travel precludes bringing a bike.

So while you are riding I'll be at the Imola swap. Sunday I'm renting an off-topic bike and riding around Milan.

given my lack of shape, the shortest one, and @iab just tempted me to not start at all and go to modena instead

Anyone (from Belgium or outside) is going to the 'Bere Retro Koers' in Meulebeke Belgium? Special guest Johan Museeuw.
Date; Saturday 21 september
more info: https://www.bereretrokoers.be/ -- no more places available (only 120 participants)

It will be my first race, don't know what to expect, if you are going or have any tips, please comment or PM

Thx

Sorry to have missed it. How was it? Did you win any "prizen"?

Love their website, BTW.

Was nice. Never thought I would like to race... but with a Jersey as big as a parachute I was not able to win some prices .

Also was my first race and 'real time' on a bike in 10-15 years so I was happy to finish it while still be able to talk afterwards.

Most guys allready hanged in one of the 8 pubs along the way after 5 or 6 rounds.
There was not really a timetable they just count the first three. Hoped to see how I did but my fitbit did refused to track

anyway the weather was nice and the atmosphere was ideal, So yeah good times!

Thank you for the report, @cboy1980! Looks like fun! I'll put it in the program for 2020.

So, who'll be going to Gaiole next week? Or will mrs non-fixie and I be having to carry the BF banners all by ourselves?
