Would this frame be a candidate for an oxalic bath? Or would oxalic acid cloud the shine of the chrome?

Do it, I think the only downside is sometimes you get a yellowish crust if the concentration is too strong. Or you could try phosphoric acid (my choice as it's faster-acting than oxalic but downside is the raw steel that's exposed goes black) or Evapo-rust or a molasses/water solution (both of these are chelates I believe)... None of them should affect stable chromium but it there rust underneath chrome that could cause flake off.

If you soak a frame in a oxalic bath (or whatever your choice of chemical), the exterior can be wiped off. BUT, what happens to the interior of the frame? In theory, the chemical you use would coat the inside of the frame; you would never be able to get to it to clean it off.....Is this not an issue?

There is a metal tube inserted in the BB. I would imagine this should be removed before the bath?
