Need brake help!!
Hey guys. I am in the process of converting my 21 speed hybrid into a single speed with a flip flop hub. With non machined deep v wheels, for example retrospect or pure fixed cycle wheels, would brakes work very well on them? Or would it be better to find different wheels (non deep v)? Thanks guys!

I found a single rim for about 70, but I don't know how to put spokes and a hub in. Are radius brakes todo for fixes as well?

Rim brakes work fine with non-machined brake tracks. I have a Sun Rims CR18 laced up and it stops the best out of any wheel I've ever had (Shimano BR500 w/Kool Stop Salmons). Sqeals like crazy, though.

OP, you're working with a Wally bike, aren't you? Many of those -- in fact, MOST -- do not have machined braking surfaces. They CAN work well with good brake pads.

I a only in high school so I have somewhat of a budget.
you dont Need deep V rims and a fixie kit to get around.. be realistic.
use a bike with Brakes that work ~! so you dont die young..
"but daaaad, all the other kids are doing it"..

though not the hightest end, quality I have good results on my son's fixies (have built two, both with front brakes non-negotiable) with Vuelta wheelsets Nashbar has a set for $90, with flip/flop, 16 tooth cog

you do get what you pay for but for a high school guy on a budget you could do worse. just check truing, and lubrication and adjustments of of the bearing. the stickers come off pretty easily......and if not use a hairdryer to help
and the resulst can be pretty nice
