Replacing Shimano Nexus 7 Twist Shifter with the Shimano Nexus SL-7S50 trigger shift?

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Specialized Globe Roll 7 bike.

This bike comes with the Nexus SG-7R50 internal, 7 speed hub.

It comes with a Twist Shifter which I'm not overly fond of.

I found the Shimano Nexus 7S50 rapid fire shifter which, according to the Shimano Euro website, might work with the 7 speed internal hubs.

Nexus Inter-7

Has anyone every made this switch before. From what I've read online on this site and others, there wasn't a rapid fire shifter available, but most of these threads were quite a few years old.

Any thoughts on if this will work or not?

Thanks
James

Looks like that is a redesign of the old thumb shifter, and I'd say it's about time. It looks like the same style as the Alfine shifters, and yes, it will work with your hub.

Thanks for the replies. I also noticed there is a brand called Microshift that makes some thumb shifters for the Shimano Inter 7 hubs.

Any thoughts on quality of Shimano vs Microshift?

Thanks
James

Win?

Hi James,

Did you ever successfully fit the Sl-7S50 shifter to your Nexus 7 hub?

Tom.

Hi Tom,

I'm embarrassed to say that, no, I didn't attempt it. I was thinking about it a few months ago and it's something I'll probably do over the winter while the bike is in hibernation.

I'll have a look on Ebay this weekend to see if there are any for sale.

I replaced a twist-shift with a trigger-shift on my Dahon Mu XL, which has a Nexus 8-speed hub. It's much easier to find the correct gear with heavy gloves on... the Mu is my dedicated "winter" bike. It works fine. Sorry, no experience with 7-speed Shimano systems, but it would not surprise me if they'd work the same way.
