Identify Stingray,
looked every place I’ve been told for serial number on Sting ray, unsuccessful. Think it’s mid 70s, any clues to narrow it down?

Are you sure it's a Schwinn?

serial number should be either on the kickstand side dropout or on the headtube just above the lower headset cup.
If it has its original Schwinn headbadge there may be a code in very small stampings too in the white field region.
The serial number has a code that is reasonably accurate

Not without pics or a crystal ball.

You need 5 posts X 2 days for 10 to post them, anti-spam security that serves us very well.

Just respond to all posts here and you will get there in no time.

In the meantime you can give us a detailed description and post pics that may go to a gallery and be migrated to here.

Welcome aboard, glad you found us.

I will look again, and send pics if I can’t figure it. Bike is rough looks like someone tried to do a BMX conversion in the 80s, put knobby on front changed banana seat to small saddle etc.

You can't post pics until you make more posts, but you can put pics in your gallery and someone will rescue them for you

Is this what it could have looked like before conversion?

When you say banana seat, it sounds like my Schwinn Stingray I had when I was a kid. This was back in the early 70's. I loved that bike. Too bad I was an irresponsible little idiot and allowed it to get stolen. I won't even bother to say how it happened. Idiot is all you need to know. I was a little less of an idiot with my second bike which lasted me many years longer, but still ended up being stolen. So, still an idiot to allow my second bike, a Raleigh Record, to get stolen. I guess I was also responsible for leaving my mother's Raleigh somewhere because my mind was a smoke filled haze at the time. And never to be seen again. Yes. An irresponsible idiot is what I am. Or was, since I haven't lost or had stolen another bike since. But it took me three bikes to learn my lesson. That's the definition of idiot.

Used to look like that but someone put bmx seat and knobby tire up front. Handlebars gone and rims pretty rough. I’ll probably just craigslist it. But I do have another one, looked up the serial number and it was built in October 73. It’s a survivor, all original except for some reason someone took the front lugs. Otherwise all original, tires seat everything. When I dig it out of shed I’ll post pic.

Six more posts - gets you to 10, the required number to ensure you're not a bot. Then you can post photos, PM other members - the whole ball o' wax
