Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

One time when I drove to do a ride (10 or 15 minutes, not a long distance) I forgot my front wheel. That was a problem.

Of course it matters. The degree gets you to an interview. That's the point. It's used as shorthand for "this person has a good chance of fitting in."
after the first job the silver spoon piece of paper becomes much less valuable. Asking the right job specific questions will find the person who can do what is required. When i review resumes the school attended carries little to no weight.

I was an automotive instructor at a private school. They had classes for welding, nursing, dental tech, etc. They fired my boss (industrial coordinator) and asked me to interview a potential replacement to help assess his knowledge of the industry. It was clear to me he knew nothing and was trying to b.s. his way into a job he was not qualified for. I relayed this to upper management and they hired him anyway. He turned out to be a total ass-clown and drove students and staff away before they fired him. They apologized to me, which was weird.

Shortly after going to work at my last Chevy dealer the service manager quit. They had 2 potential candidates, both of whom I had worked for in the past. The owner asked me about them. I told them one was a solid manager, good people skills and very serious about the work. The other, while a nice person, was not a good manager and got no respect from employees and was frequently duped by the lot porters. He was willing to work cheaper, so he's the one they hired. He lasted almost a year.

Good chilly ride. Jacket WAS required but I got to play with the zipper as it warmed up. I might have made it to the top of the podium but I know it won’t last.

edit: not even. Number two and falling.

I hope it’s not too P&R, but next observation really is cycling related and goes to state of mind.

Every time I see a “Biden” sign I read it initially as “Bidon.”

Come to think of it, given the circumstances a water bottle for president might not be such a bad idea. Sad!

I hope it’s better. Nuclear option is some Prednisone. I know a certain mouse who can hook you up with some...

Oh really? Do you crush up a pill and make a paste to put on the sting? #HomeRemedies

Silly mouse. It’s systemic treatment. Taken orally. That’s why I consider it the nuclear option.

Two shifts in a 22 mile flat ride with crosswinds. The first was to correct a ghost shift and the second was to correct the over shift of that correction. Normally there would be a tailwind on the return leg, and as such a few shifts in and out of the big ring.
There are many more details which could be discussed, but it boils down to my needs being diametrically opposed to yours. All I need is a comfortable bike and a motor. We are talking about different animals here.

On flattish terrain, how strong must the headwind be to justify shifting to the small ring?

Discuss.

Not even 40 miles - stupid windy and I was completely unmotivated. And the cooler weather has the idiots out. Did set my 60" power again at 495w, thanks to getting to set it into the wind.

Now for my Giants to disappoint me again.
