Nice easy lunch ride. A good break from the usual mid-day Zwift session.

Nice seeing the photos. Haven't ridden since Labor Day due to heavy smoke and hazardous to very hazardous air quality as well as work and dealing with all the folks who lost all they had in Oregon and Washington. It's pretty humbling.

Much cooler today than it has been, and about to get cooler! Today may be my last early morning ride of the year - I may have to wait till the day starts warming up, that or wear a lot more clothes! Cool enough to warrant tights and leg warmers as I took my Mercian fixed gear out for 26 miles over the usual route. I stopped to tuck my right shoelace safely away from the drive train and got a pic of the Abbeville County sign, admired the roses on Clem Road and dug the trees on Deadfall, then came home to start the day.

37 miles on a crisp autumn day. 60 degrees and windy.
Peeptoad pond just south of Harmony
I ran into these two old friends on a little side road.
While I was taking these pics a small group of fully kitted out carbon roadies came up on me. One asked, "Are you ok?" My response was, "Yeah, just taking pictures of rocks." I got an odd look and they rode off.

The seasons are changing - 52 degrees when I went out this morning. Did 64 miles north. Had a wasp fly in my jersey and sting my chest, but not a bad day for a ride.
Color is coming in - lots of golden rod to make my nose drip.
Skokie river - it's been a dry summer.
Plenty of boats in the Wilmette harbor.

30+ on my Mercian through Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Perfect weather, from the ridiculous to the sublime.

Susquehanna River Area
Took my daughter back to school and found some quality riding on the St. Etienne in the middle of PA.
On the Isle of Que just East of Selinsgrove.
Lookout from Shikellamy State Park
Crossing the bridge to Lewisburg, PA, remnants of rail crossing.
Grave site from 1780, marking turmoil in area from French and Indian War.
These ladies were happy to come say hello.

Did most of the Des Plaines River Trail yesterday. Rode from Evanston to Old School Forest Preserve then rode north on DPRT to mile marker 12. Turned around then rode back into Cook County to not quite Allison Woods. Everything was going swimmingly until a giant root in the middle of the trail reached out and whacked my front wheel. I'm okay, just a little trail rash on the contact points. Total, 75 miles. Need a new handlebar plug on the left side. I think that's all that got mussed up on the bike.
I stopped at Panera for some fuel and wound up feeding the neighborhood yellow jackets as well. This little guy/gal probably couldn't believe their good fortune.

Nowhere, pouring rain and up to my neck in pedals from the campaign I've been on organizing, cleaning and overhauling, I'm a sucker for them.
So many can be brought way back from pretty bad off, tough stuff that take a beating and live to fight on.

Quick ride on some no name trails around Fairplay on a recent bin find Roadmaster Quadtrail 29'r not much of a bike but free and only have some lube and used gripshift invested in the fix up . Rides nice but not a great bike way too short wheelbase for a lesser 29'r, it's my size basically and I'm in toe strike territory riding flats, bars are too wide crank too short and it has gripshifts all stock. So this one will be moving on in the near future won't likely show up hear again. But everything looks great in the Rockies right now a lot of colour every wear you look blue sky and interesting clouds.
Banned.

Another 30 miles out 'n back on the New River Trail. Booted cut on front tire finally gave way about 4 miles into the return leg, but the air pressure equalized and didn't flat completely, so I continued. Surprisingly I was able to get all the way back home on the remaining air, and it's only gone totally flat as I write this
I have a gift for finding these things almost anywhere:
Before the flat:
Angry Bird:
Angry Bird's home:
Can I make it?
As long as I didn't hit anything or bottom out I was confident the tire would make it - and it did:
Always preferable to flat a front, well, at least on level ground, when traveling in a straight line, with both hands on the bar and plenty of time to react. Otherwise, it's better to do the rear!

Outer Banks, NC. Daily 25-32 mile sprints, one way with the wind (I so fast!) and one way against the wind (I so slow!).
