I think that's some sort of fungus covering that dead spider.....Yeccchh!

spiders molt - shed their skins so its probably just means there is a larger spider alive nearby.

Hah! I saw this same thing in a basement last week. Freaky looking fungus, some die a slow death and will still move with the white coating.

We have "daddy long legs" that sometimes come into basements that are real long legged like that. Other indoor spiders are little brown jobbers that don't bite. I usually pick them up and deposit them outside. Just haven't seen any as long as in the photo.

that is a nasty fungus. not heard of that.. thought it was just a shell. daddy long legs are good for your basement- they eat black widows.
