Hi. I'm looking for Albatross-type handlebars (i.e, grips parallel to the frame, gip area long enough to accept a grip-shifter) to use with a 31.8-mm oversized clamp (yes, I could just get a new stem, but I'd rather not). The grip-area diameter shoud be 23.8. Does such a handlebar exist?

Shim sleeves are made . machined, with a 31.8mm (1.25") outside

and what the bar clamp diameter actually is , on the inside..

As a mechanical solution, Then, you can use that specific Nitto made bars that Riv Bike sells as the 'Albastache'

which I assume is replacing the narrower mustache bar with a road bar like .. as you say '23.3' * mm ,
not 7/8".. 22.2mm.
those came in 1" & 26mm center sleeve..

'Albatross' is a variant of the upright north road bend and uses 7/8" mtb brake and shifter levers and grips.. ....

a mere 1.6mm diameter difference..

Not that I know of. I used Albatross with the shim that is described above. Velo Orange also sells the shims. Maybe someone else has an idea.

I personally think that Albatross bends are just as unnatural as a 'straight' bar and IMO the bend of the FSA Metropolis strikes the perfect balance. Have one on our flat-bar tandem. On one Mary bars have a similar bend but the Metropolis has a 31.8 center area. Try one, it might grow on you.

That's very similar to the bars I'm trying to replace (because they're making my hands hurt). I generally use moustache bars on most of my bikes, but this one (Douze cargo bike) has got a NuVinci hub, so it needs a longer grip area for the grip shifter. Albatross or porteur would seem to be the right thing.

grip shifters need 22.2 tube to slip over .. 23.8 will be a no go not fit..

My R'off grip shifter, would not even fit over 22.5mm,

the added thickness .3mm of powder coat, had to come off..

It is a personal thing. We’re all wired differently. Using these bars currently. Former bike had North Road bars. Basically albatross. Gonna change it to them. More hand positions.
