Wal Mart went hipster
I like to walk over to the bike section at the Wally while the wife is about her shopping. It amuses me a bit to see what kind of stuff they are pushing to the common guy. I noted today that they have a flashy black, orange, and yellow fixie up on the racks now. I didn't notice who it was made by, likely a "Schwinn", but it is certainly a sign that fixies are becoming much more mainstream when Wal Mart is even offering one.
Are we now going to see all the hipsters move on to something else? They certainly can't ride a type of bike they offer at the great corporate devil store.....

I've seen a couple of attempts at selling them for $150-200 on CL, floor price = $99. Even one attempt at de-McDonaldsizing them prior to CL resale.

My nephew actually bought this very bike a few months ago to commute around campus. I had to true the wheels up a bit, adjust the brakes, and lube a few parts of the bike but it has actually held up pretty well for him. It is incredibly heavy...I'd say 35 pounds +....But for $100 dollars, it's fine for what he's using it for.

Both. They come chained up on the freewheel side,but come with a fixed cog too, so you just need to flip the rear wheel to roll fixed.

Or maybe Econ? They say Economics is the study of incentives, and pity is arguably a mightier theft-deterrent than anything Kryptonite could devise.

He's studying to be a Pharmacist. After he bought it, I tried to talk him into something much better but he insists on riding this until it falls apart. Based off what I've seen in the past from Walmart bikes, he'll get a year or so out of it and then the parts to fix it will outweigh what he spent. Still, I don't blame him for buying it for $100 dollars.

Wal-Mart is going to sell more of these bikes than any LBS selling some Crabon/vintage custom steel velocipede.
Fixies are becoming way more accessible to folks compared to $15,000 digital gruppo all carbon 10lbs wunderbikes.
They may suck and weigh a ton for us Gentleman Riders, but it's getting kids into bikes. And that's pretty cool.
Wal-Mart still sucks, though.

Yeah it's a POS compared to a real road bike but at the same time for the type of riding most people actually do it makes more sense than other new bikes in that price range, for instance a ****ty next brand MTB thing.
