650c tubes in 650b tires?

Anyone tried this? All i could find was either huge 650bs or 650cs in smaller widths. I used the 650cs and the were fine in town but after some fairly rough, loaded touring i was getting flats where i couldnt find any tire puncture or much of a hole in the tube. They seemed to last longer the lower they were inflated so i believe i have just over stretched the tube. Gonna find some 650b by 1.5

26" tubes are what you're looking for. Even Compass Rene Herse (ground zero for 650b wheels and tires) sells Schwalbe tubes labelled as 26" for 650b use.

QBP sells their "Q-tubes" in 650B sizes. Not too bad at $8-9 retail.

I've been really impressed by those Schwalbe tubes. Pump them up outside of a tire and they expand very evenly, unlike some cheap tubes. Just make sure the valve core is tight before using them.

+1 on that! I spent a long time looking for a leak in a Schwalbe tube one night under a streetlight, until I finally realized that the core wasn’t fully tight. Now there’s a Park valve tool in each patch kit.

It can be frustrating the first time it happens, but it's not a big deal to tighten down the valve cores (I don't even use a tool, just two pairs of pliers) right when you get brand-new tubes. It's my habit regardless of brand now.

Pretty much every time someone posts a tool that I don't have, I order or go out and get one.

Thanks Dave! And ThermionicScott for the idea of tightening down all your cores before installing. I just got through patching about 20 tires, and inflated them all for an overnight leak test. 3 didn't make it, water test showed 2 had leaky valves.

i do know that and was hesitant to use them because of that. However i didnt want to use the 584s they had that started at above 2 inches wide.
Tubes folded dont last that well either. I eventually found the size i needed and the shop i work at will begin stocking them. Most new 27.5 bikes have much wider than 38mm or 1.5" tires.

BITD I witnessed customers coming back months after purchasing a bike complaining that their tires were going flat, not believing that air molecules leaks very slowly through the tube rubber itself.

Some companies call 650B's 27.5's. I think that's stupid MTB terminology.

even when called 650b most dont stock anything smaller than 2. 38 or 42 translates to 1.5 to 1.75 or there abouts. Really 26 by 1 and 3/8s is close enough if its a decent tube.

Russell, that's the size I typically buy for 650b x 42's.

One problem with using tubes for 590mm applications is that they’re usually Schrader valve while all of my 650b wheels are Presta. And I don’t plan on drilling them out.

Then again, I seem to be mostly setting up wheels tubeless these days.

It's simple, really. 27" > 29" == 28" > 27.5" > 26"
