Those pics are OLD pics.. the bikes look better now and I know now to have drive side photos...
When I saw the thread, I just retrieved the old photos..
Could be making fun of my super beater grand prix too... ggrrrrrr...
I tell you what, that old rust bucket grand prix rides, rides so good, that I will snap one up in my size, good shape in a second..

Bicycle Repairman
The one that started my interest in Raleighs.
Mid 60's "Boss Bike". All chrome, 26 x 2.0 tires, single speed, B-33, heavy drop stand.
1951 DL-1. This thing was a nasty, rusty basket case when I got it.
1976 Tourist.
1969 tall frame Chopper 3+2. These have a lot of one year-only parts and are hateful to restore if anything is missing.
Wartime Dawn with blackout parts and "war grade" tires.
1982 Dutch Cameo. Super clean original bike
1972 Malaysian Sports. Found in the trash this summer.
1969 Twenty (Needs correct rack)

Well, you asked for it. Raleighs were never at the top of my wishlist, but for some reason they are not very popular around these parts and I get to scoop them up for pocket money. To my surprise I already seem to own ten of them. Most of them are in the 'project waiting line' or in the parts bin so you'll have to make do with the sellers' pictures. Quality of the those varies, to say the least.
First one I got was a Sirocco, that had only spent time in the bedroom as an indoor trainer. Dusty, but otherwise in fine shape.
This one is unidentified as yet. Not really high-end. Came with GP4's and Campagnolo 980.
A Rapide. Rode it for a while with a flat bar. Nice bike.
My favorite, a polar blue Record Ace with SunTour Superbe. Beautiful stuff.
Another Rapide, very nice frame, with 30 cm's (0.984251968503 feet) of oversized (?) seatpost rammed down the seat tube. Started sawing 4 months ago and still at it.
A ProLine 200. Don't know much about it, but I love the Rolf wheels, and it's a nice ride.
Another Sirocco. Previous owner had died, and I got the bike, the clothes and the tools from a very nice widow.
Yet another Sirocco. Traded in by an LBS, who was glad to see the back of it. In very nice condition.
A Flyer. Went straight into the parts bin. I like the blue cable housing.

And there are more where those came from (but no pics uploaded yet)... have a matching 1974 R20, a 1977 R20, Raleigh Saffron, 1975 Sports, and a 1972 Raleigh Fireball.

Appears we have almost identical bikes. I see a difference in your cranks and your derailer. I bought my bike as stated in my first post #2 in 1983 so I am assuming it is a 1983 Grand Prix. I see you state yours is a 1984. My cranks are original stamped "Raleigh 170mm" and my derailers are Suntour AXR. I have obviously changed a few things recently but most others were identical you your bike in every way including the brake levers as well as the positioning of them more upward. I am a tall person at 6'4" 220 lbs so I made a few modifications to the seatpost and the new style quill and stem (130mm) with a height extention also. Other than that, this bike is extremely heavy duty for my large size.
Curious what cranks and derailers you have? If they are Raliegh, then they changed the design. My guess is they are either a different gruppo option in the years to come OR you changed them to aftermarket for some reason.

The other day I was rooting around in my basement and I saw the original owners manual for my 1973 Grand Prix. Would anybody read it if I scanned it and threw it online somewhere. It (the manual) is in perfect condition, it sat here in a box in New Jersey while I (and my bike) travelled around the country for 30 years...
