BB spindle question

i plan on getting a new left crank arm for my bike because my current stock one pedal threads have been stripped.

the stock crankset i have currently fits a 103mm BB spindle, which is probably the size on my bike.

im looking at a cheap replacement left crank arm, that is a different brand and would probably need a 107mm BB spindle.

the replacement crank and the ruined one are both the same(square taper, 165mm length)

would the new replacement crank arm fit on the BB? and also, does it make sense to run 2 different crank brands, with same size and taper?

It depends. If you want to do it the right way, take stock of your setup, read this link and encompass glory and salvation.

Or just pop on the spare crank arm. It'll work, though it may be good or off by a few mms.

As long as it doesn't hit the chainstay you're fine. Even a few mm of clearence is enough. Worst case you have to replace the BB.

As long as the arms are the same length (duh) there's no issue running a mismatched crank. I've done it.

No guarantees, but yes I think it will work. If anything I'd guess it will be about 2mm closer to the chainstay.

All you really needed to do was bring your crank arm to any competent machine shop and have it heliocoiled. It most likely would have cost much less than a new crank arm.

They'd have left hand taps? I've re-tapped a damaged right arm before, never figured it could be done for a left arm.

In any case, how much did the new piece cost? Less than $20?
