How can I tell if my scratched carbon frame is safe?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How can I tell if my scratched carbon frame is safe?

I crashed in a crit on the weekend. I am fine, and I still finished the race using the free lap rule. The bike has some cosmetic scratches that I can see don't go through the paint and clearcoat. However, there is scratching on the seat stay, that I cannot tell if it is safe. I am most worried about a gouge in the frame, as the frame didn't really take any blunt force trauma in the fall besides falling over(I didn't hit anything head on and nothing hit me from behind).

1) we need pics,

2) take it to your LBS and ask their opinion (which may or may not be authoritative)

3) take a nickel and tap on the frame above, below, and on the scratch. If the sound stays consistent you're likely ok. If it turns to a dull thud in the scratched area, you've got a problem.
