Getting into Junior Track Riding?

I'm 16, and ever since I got my bowery, I've had the idea of track riding in my mind. I'm not sure if I can track with it, but what is a good way to get into track riding? Is it any different because I'm a minor? Will I need to buy a track bike or would there be a way for me to borrow one?

Many local tracks have a junior program. Ours track does. It's free and they provide bikes, helmets, clipless shoes, instructors, etc... Pretty cool.

Go to the website of your local track and email the track director and see if they have a similar program.

Your bike is fine.

Would I have to remove the brakes to track it?

yes, but if you can afford a spare set of bars (and maybe stem) it only takes a couple minutes to go from brakes to brakeless.

I do have a road bike, so I could even devote my bowery strictly to track use. Although, I checked on performance a set of bars is only 30 bucks, so it doesn't seem like it'd be too expensive to swap.
