Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Discouraged with the used bike options out there, might have to go new....

I've been scouring craigslist and ebay for the past month trying to find a good used 52-53 size singlespeed bike for zipping around the city in. I am looking for something very agile and harshness doesn't bother me cause I'll eventually soften it up with some carbon.

I'd like to be under 17lb stock for the bike and under 1000 bucks. I'd like to put money into the bike to get it under 15lb eventually but that isn't a req off the bat.

I may have to bite the bullet and purchase new. Local bike shops have the following brands to choose from. Not a single one carries a track bike I can try though so I'd have to buy without trying.

Specialized Langster
Felt TK3
Trek T1
Bianchi Pista (too heavy?)
KHS Flite 100 (too heavy?)

Not sure what I should do....

You looked at Wabi's? High quality bikes at low quality prices.

langster is about 19lbs stock.
tk3 is around 18lbs (according to the felt website)
trek t1 is definitely sub-17 stock if not around that mark. this is probably your best bet.

pista/flite will both be around 19-20lbs stock.

if youre purchasing from a store they'll be able to fit you and order the bike size that you need - though they should let you try it before you put down all your cash. also, edit: the wabi lightning is a fantastic choice. completely slipped from my head.

Sub 17 pounds can be easily met with a newer high end aluminum *track oriented* frame paired with a carbon wheelset. The second and third you listed, bianchi super pista & pista concept, cinelli vigorelli & mashpotatos, etc.

Older Fuji Track Pros are light. The ones that look like Leader 725s/Motobecane Team Track/Bianchi Super Pista/Bianchi Pista Concept.

Here's a Dolan Track Champion:

Already caught during the Tour of Britain, Jonny Bellis took time out of the recent Revolution track meet in Manchester to show us his trusty track bike. Like many other members of the British team, Jonny is still choosing to ride his Terry Dolan.

It's a solid bike.

OP says he wants a singlespeed. A singlespeed needs a rear brake. Can you mount a rear brake on a Dolan ?

That last Dolan is sexy. I think OP should reconsider the SS part.

Thanks so much for all your guys suggestions. They really mean a lot as I'm newb. So I went to my lbs today and they checked inventory at trek and apparently trek is out of T1 frames in 52. I'm doomed to never get a bike.

Dolan was a good suggestion cept no brakes allowed. I need a brake and a flip flop hub.

The cannon dale went for over 1200. Are you kidding me?

Bikes direct only has the motobecane in 52 orange. Not white. Not a big fan of orange

The wabi. I don't know. I am just not feeling the look and geometry of it. Plus the wheels look shady. And the fact that everyone recommending them don't have them or have ridden them is a bit scary for a small company like wabi. I'm sure they are good but I just prefer something alittle more well known and trackish.

So I guess I have to sit and wait for something to show on eBay or craigslist locally.

I could try another lbs that has felt tomorrow. We'll see.

I was gonna bid on this when it was 600 but it went for over 1500. Nuts

Exsqueeez meeee ! That's 15 lbs of sheer speed and those wheels are very well built, and plenty of other people have used them. And bikes with track geo don't necessarily work well on the road. This bike is both stiff and responsive w/o having a pounding ride. But if you're going to make your choice based on color, looks and what some doping pro cyclist rides, then please ignore my post.

TT, that bike is beautiful.

I had a 56cm Trek T1. It was well over 17lbs. The older ones were lighter.

Sorry to offend you. I don't feel comfortable with the wabi and I wouldn't like it. The geometry is a bit too roadish.
