funny thing is, i live in a very safe neighborhood. no one ever bothers our stuff but, folks who live in the surrounding and more expensive areas think we live in a slum. it certainly works in our favor. we wouldnt be able to afford to live in the cool area we live in if everyone knew how nice it was.

One could always use heavy-duty chains for the porch. Grinding thru them would at least make some noise.

BTW in Virginia if a thief steals a bike over $200 value they're liable to felony grand larceny charges. Maryland or DC has $1,000 limit.
afraid to say it's a common thing here in Ireland thiefs are on the lookout seems all the time,
there latest trick is to target were all the roadies stop for coffee then they march in as bold as brass dressed as a cyclist and ride of with the very best of bikes .these scumbags know if there caught they will more than likely get off with a light fine and a caution.

if someone were to try and steal a bike around here it would be a mountain bike. nobody thinks the road bikes are worth anything unless they are carbon fiber. i always lock everywhere i go but its really not much of an issue where i live. thank goodness.

Well you could build some sort of bicycle garage if your bicycle stays outside. "Out of sight out of mind" A 4'x4'x8' garage should fit 2 bicycles maybe 3. hinge the front and the lid. A bit of roofing. Easy & cheap enough. Have you looked at the "Sammy Screamer"

actually thinking about doing this with pvc tubes and a large tarp. i can then hook the locks to the large iron railing at the back of the apt building. my main concern really is rain.

Consider a solid roof. plywood, fencing or something else that will keep the tarp from sagging on top.

i understand what your saying but i wont buy a bike unless it is honest transportation. and it is damn fine transportation. i am not sure but i think this is the best i have felt riding a bike in years.

They will steal the Bob Jackson and strip it, sell the parts. They will chuck the frame because of the serial number.
i've had 4 bikes stolen. Take the BJ up to the living room. Plus stored outside is not good for rust and corrosion. I'm begging you.
Leave the Fender outside!
