Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Inhad this pain after riding a stock saddles painlessly for a couple of years.

New bike, new saddle. Only noticed it on longer rides but it really sucked. Even hurt to pee.

I tried a few saddles, including the cut outs. Wasn't a fan of the cut outs. Ended up switching from an arione to Antares. The wider antares ended up curing me. I guess the arione was too narrow and was basically slipping just enough up that the pressure was causing pain in the taint.

IME the pain from lack of miles is sit bone pain that eventually goes away once the "ass callus" builds.

It really depends on what kind of pain he's talking about (he's specific with location, but not type). If his junk is hurting and/or then going numb, that's not something to get used to or something to (pardon) dick around with - you actively seek ways to alleviate it; maybe I wouldn't go to different saddles out of the gate, but if the fit isn't too far out of whack and tweaks don't help, I don't think that it's inappropriate to start looking at saddles as a possible solution. If it's some kind of abrasion/chafing, then maybe he gets used to it or maybe it it's addressed with appropriate clothing.

This mirrors my experience, too. I've never really experienced chafing or saddle sores, so I can't speak on those, but sit bone ass pain is the only pain that I casually dismiss with an "HTFU."

Tilt the nose of the saddle up a bit. It will take the pressure off your taint.

You'll look back fondly upon those trips when you're pissing yourself in bed.

I'd say look for a new saddle and make sure you're actually sitting on your sit bones (and can feel it). I just found out about 2 weeks ago that I've been riding with way too much pressure on my perineal area which was why I was getting a lot of numbness down there while riding (probably cutting off a few big blood vessels).

My friend ignored the pain and numbness that would just start to creep in on 1-2 hour rides, much to his detriment after committing to a 6-7 hour ride. He said that the in-ride discomfort was pretty bad, but more concerning was the fact that he went months without being able to muster up an erection. Yeah, that's not the kind of thing that I want to take lightly.

The best taint toughening exercise is to stand on your head, spread your legs and have a bunch of neighborhood kids smack your taint with wooden dowels like a piñata.

Every man over 50 should perform a monthly prostate self-exam.

The numbness is from pressure on the pudendal nerves, which run through the taintal area. (True)

Luckily I don't seem to have any lasting problems down there but I figured it was probably time to fix it before anything like that arises.

Try this: DZ Nuts Pro Chamois Cream | Competitive Cyclist

I used it when I first started riding. After a few months I didn't need it anymore.
