Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It’s decent size. 12 inches across maybe 18 inches long.

Looks to be cool enough in the morning to keep me indoors. It was fun this winter when I thought I'd put in more real miles than ever before this year.

But I want Zwift to keep me distracted with group rides and to simulate the group ride dynamic. There are several features that allow and/or encourage this. First one is the fence. The fence is placed by the ride leader and essentially prevents riders from flying off the front and pushing the pace. It's a great feature. It worked fine but apparently developed some problems so they took it down 2 months ago. Since then, the group rides I have gone on are much faster and harder and way less cohesive. That's my first gripe. It's not the worst one.

My second, and bigger gripe, is that periodically the program essentially erases other riders from me, which eliminates the draft and turns a group ride into a solo ride. Also, when the draft is lost, I am not able to stay with the group. The last two group rides I did were like this, and it's very frustrating. I might as well just ride a dumb trainer with a youtube video of cycling for free.

I just canceled my account.
Kudos

Our last frost date in southeast Ohio was always May 15.
Many years ago, when I was selling at the farmers mkt., the old timer director told me that in 1963 there was a frost in mid June. Wiped out everything--tomatoes, potatoes, corn, etc.

We had a coating of snow overnight. But the sun came out and it's mostly melted now.

Got in an early and chilly ride. It was windy but very refreshing. My hope is it’s the last ride this season where I will need winter gloves and jacket.

I somehow kept hearing “Your Pizza’s Burning” sung to “Beast of Burden” during the ride, I imagine it was last nights dinner that fueled the ride.

I’m even back on the Addiction podium now, I suspect it won’t last.

Happy Mother’s Day to all, especially any lurking mothers. Any real mothers in Addiction?

It snowed a bit here but none of it stuck. Now the winds are in the 19ish range and I’m trying to decide if I want to slog 30 miles into a headwind then sail home.

This morning the low was 37F, and a year ago today the low was 63F.

Really makes you think.
