The "what did you drive..." thread got me thinking. I can't even count the number of cars I've owned but several stand out.....'66 Corvette Coupe, '70 Lotus Elan, '89 BMW 325is (modified), '02 Subaru Impreza RS (very modified), '95 BMW 318TI and my current '03 Audi A4 Avant Quattro. They have all been really fun to drive cars although the Audi is more sedate than I'm used to. Excellent car though. If I had to choose just one I'd probably go with the 318TI. If it was AWD there would be no contest.

I've had a number of cars I really enjoyed. My 1st car was a used, 15-year-old Morris 850, AKA "mini."

While in my twenties I had a thing for Alfa Romeos, I owned several coupes, spiders and berlinas, a 1980 sedan was the best of these. A 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS (Sprint Speciale) was the most collectable.


I almost forgot about the 1972 2000 GTV. With two sidedraft Weber carbs & good 205x60 tires, that was a fast car. Got 100,000 miles from it, too.


I had an all-wheel-drive 5-cylinder Audi 4000CS quattro sedan in 1984, that was nice.

This Mazda6 is my current car. Very dependable and not too dull. Plus it can hold 3 bikes (with all the wheels on).

The favorite car that I owned, my first VW Microbus. 1962, Green and White and low mileage. It was sweet. I love the driver's position. Just lean on the steering wheel and roll down the road.

I've driven so many others. Rolls are nice, everything is so neat and precise. Old Corvettes challenge you to drive them. Got to drive a Pro-Stock Nova once. It had trouble going slow.

But it's often the drive rather than the car. One of the most fun drives ever was in a Ford Escort rental car in the desert heading towards Las Vegas. Not much acceleration, but great brakes and good cornering on a back-woods route that offered no traffic, flash floods, blind corners and cows wandering freely on both sides of the road an occasionally across it. 50 miles or so of pure driving fun.

I mostly drove a series of hand me down, worn out POS cars. The '73 Mercury Capri V6 that I somehow convinced my parents to buy while I was in HS was my favorite car to drive. Most of the cars I've bought were inexpensive and practical more than fun.
I'd say my all time favorite car was a motorcycle. My '75 Kawasaki Z-1B 900. I loved that bike and have no idea how I lived through owning it.

My favorite car of all time was an Austin-Healey Sprite Mark II. Though in many ways deficient, especially after the first drop of rain, I was a teenager and it was a convertible sports car.

My current favorite is our Highlander Hybrid.

I currently own an '06 Insight for commuting to work. Not fun to drive in the usual sense, but fun to see what kind of hyper-mileage I can get. During the summer it's easy to top 70 mpg, more of a challenge in the winter (usually 62 - 65mpg).

My weekend car is a '97 Miata M-Edition. Great on winding mountain roads getting to climbing rides. I have a receiver and a 1-bike rack on the back. Very dependable and does everything (sports car wise) better than my '67 MG Midget (which had tons of retro-coolativity . . . and not much else).

My dream car: Lancia Stratos.

I had a '73 Capri V6 in HS, too (I hope it wasn't the same one ) Red with black trim, with the obligatory rust stripes over the wheel wells. Biggest POS car of all times, and I loved it. I learned how to get out of places where I wasn't supposed to be.

Drive home (50 miles) with no clutch pedal? No problem!

Battery dead and no jumper cables? No problem!

Sunroof stuck open in January? No problem!

Carb fire in a McDonalds parking lot? ok, small problem.

Years later, as an adult, I bought a '74 MGB. My car buddies asked why I would buy (and drive) one of those unreliable old things. "Easy, I'm Capri trained"

edit: I happened to drive past my old HS girlfriends house one day and there is still a huge oil stain in the road where I used to park more than 30 years ago. I guess the Capri legacy lives on.

We all must have something in common beyond bicycles. One of my current cars is a '95 M-Edition Merlot. It's fun to drive like the MGB, but with air-conditioning. Light-years ahead of the Capri in reliability.

My favorite car was a 69 Chevelle two door hardtop. It had a 300 horse 350 with a turbohydo. It was still a real car with a real frame, and rear wheel drive. Drop it in drive, and lay it to the floor and it shifted at 56 and 96. It got good mileage out on the hiway too.

One more thing. It was a two door hardtop, and you could see out of it. It was not like the POS cars of today that have gun slit windows!!!!

My favorite car is any with a bicycle rack on it. It drives my wife nuts, but one of the first things I check when looking at the purchase of a car is if it will accommodate a roof rack for the bikes. I don't know that I've had a favorite. As long as it starts and gets me where I'm going I'm OK. I've had some stupid fast cars and some incredibly luxurious cars, however, some of them gave me nothing but headaches and drained my wallet faster than I could replenish it. I'm guess I'm not passionate about cars. Bikes? Well, that's another story...

My fav was my '71 Datsun 1200. It was peppy, handledl ike a little sports car, and got 45 mpg on the highway. Looked sort of like this, but firecracker red and it was a 2-door sedan, if that's not an oxymoron.

Turned 50 this past October. Believe it or not, I'm only on my 3rd car, and I was "forced" to buy that one since some guy totalled my 2nd car Feb '11 trying to make an off-ramp that he missed.
1. 1st car: '79 Indy Mustang Pace Car (bought it in '84)
2. 2nd car: '93 Honda Civic Si (bought it brand new in '92) - The car totalled last February
3. Current car: '11 Mazda-3 GT Hatchback
All 3 cars hatchbacks!! Gotta be able to put my bike inside of my car!!

My favorite car, tho', is a (modified) Golf TDI. 800+ miles/tank. Easy.

No favorite really. I like cars and driving and stuff, but they are more about the utility of getting from point A to point B than something that inspires passion. My current ride is a 2005 Hyundai Elantra. Insanely versatile in the hatchback version, pretty roomy and comfy for a compact (and I'm 6'-2", 220).

That is kind of a subset of my favorite. My favorite car is the one that stays parked unless it is absolutely, positively, the only tool that will get the job done. Considering that something like 40% of all car trips in America are two miles or less, there aren't many of my favorites out there.

Yes, I'm beginning to see the connection. I started with a '65 Biscayne (it was no Capri...), and have had a '92 Miata for about 10 yrs. Current favorite is my '12 Jeep Rubicon. It rocks (and muds and sands and snows).

My favorite car was a 2007 4 Runner that I had for a few years until someone ran a stop sign and the car got totalled. I bought 2010 4 Runner when the new models came out but it's not the car my eariler one was for too many reasons.

If I were forced to pick just one, it would likely be the Volvo.
