metro sport 10 speed

A friend asked me to fix up an old 10 speed for her, but I can't seem to locate any info on it. Steel lugged frame, with Shimano Skylark RD, Femco 27x1 1/4 steel wheels, cottered crank, Hubs kk (f-86) markings. The paint is in remarkable condition and the wheels are true, shiny, and usable. The bb has a serial number ds 60402567. Its obviously a bike made during the bike boom, probably by a better known company but can anyone expand on these guesses. I'm temporarily stymied on making it ridable because its missing a seat stem (apparently a 26.0 mm a size that I don't have in the parts bin). The FR is Shimano too but no name is apparent. Thanks for any info you might point out to me. Its a guess that the last two numbers of the serial are the year of manufacture (1967?). Tom

This was a store brand. Metro bicycles is a chain in New York City. Your bike appears to be made in the 70's, not the 60's.

You can easily determine the vintage of the bicycle by applying the information contained in How Old Is My Bike? That said, I agree with other comments. The bicycle is of entry level quality, probably weights well over 25 pounds but should still be fun to ride, assuming the OP is not expecting stellar performance.

If you need a 26.0mm seat post, they should still be available as that is a popular size for old MTBs.
It does look to be in good shape after all these years. It's nothing remarkable, but it's worth fixing and riding. Just don't spend too much.

thanks. I foresee the bike getting moderate use until its owner decides to get serious about riding. Its no name brakes are being replaced by Modelo Speedy's as this is written. Tom
