I'm puzzled I couldn't find an existing thread. Anyway, got my requisite 72 on my birthday. Seems there is some fascination with what folks eat on their rides so for the record I ate a Clif gel, a Clif bar, drank a bottle of Gatorade and most of a bottle of water. My dear wife made a pot of Chili, a pan of cornbread and my favorite chocolate cake so an excellent feed after the ride.

Next B-day ride for me is 7/10 and this year hope to add 2 more miles to last year's ride so will be 71 x 2 = 142 + 1 = 143. I do not allow wife to cook so meal is on me after. Most likely a huge salad with sardines plus my own dressing and my own Curry Powder mix + a huge baked sweet potato with lots of Ceylon cinnamon + some Organic South African or California Merlot + NY Style Cheesecake for desert. ALL FLAT here in SW FL so it's nice and easy.

January birthday plus Wisconsin weather means unlikely that I could do this outside. Four+ hours on a trainer does not sound like fun!

Yep, I'm a wimp when it comes to riding in cold weather. High 30s are OK if the sun is out. It would have to be something very special to get me out below freezing. We have so many springs and seeps, you never know when you'll come across a random patch of ice. Kudos to guys in the North who can ride all year, they are beasts!

I turned 56 last December and I had plans to ride 56 miles that day, until a cold front pulled in the day before, drop the temps to upper 30's and lots of wind. I live in North Florida, I don't ride in upper 30's, so decided to try and wait it out. It seemed the weather was not going to cooperate for me, so I went out a couple of days later to attempt it, but 45F and 15 mph winds was no bueno, but I still got out and rode 30 just to help get used to it. The next 2 days it rained..... and got colder. Finally on Saturday, the weather gods came through, high 50's, no wind, so I did 58 miles for my 56 years. Even thought I had to wait a week to do it, it was worth it.

I don't eat food generally on long ride, it causes me issues, so I have to get all my calories through my bottles, I generally use Hammer's Perpetuem. 2 scoops per 24 oz bottle and I drink a bottle an hour, and I also add electrolytes to it as well, especially in the summer when it is really humid here in Florida. It has been a formula I have followed for a long time and it has worked extremely well for me. My meal after was flat pack of albacore tuna, with some kidney beans, salt, pepper and then wrap it up in some lettuce. It's not sexy, but very tasty,

I'm pretty sure the rules permit the ride to happen any day during the calendar month. For folks in the more inhospitable latitudes, even the calendar year probably is OK.

I did 60 miles on Zwift yesterday for my 60th birthday ride, too cold for me to ride outside. I'll make it up on the road once the temperatures are above 40.

I rode 65 miles on 12-5 -20 for my birthday ride, the weather was perfect ( low 58- high 74) I rode 12 miles and stopped for breakfast ( 3 eggs,2 pancakes,double order of bacon and coffee) at mile 45 I ate a banana and several coconut macaroons,at mile 60 I was out of water so I bought a small Gatorade and drank it, I had gone through 60oz of water...finished my ride and barely could climb the steps to my house...I was very pleased with myself that I did it

1958 Claud Butler Jubilee: I just bought a birthday year bike (well it's a bit older than I am but it was manufactured around 20 miles from where I was born) to rebuild for my ride this summer when I turn a year older . . .

Tomorrow we are looking at low 40'sF here on Cape Haze/Rotonda West. Planning on a "start ride shortly after sunrise" for at least 70.5 mile (B-day 7/10) celebratory ride. How about you get out for your 65 year-1 month-5 day B-day ride.

Two years ago I was going to Ride My Age on my birthday. Planned out the route, ramped up my distance in preparation, etc. Then we had several weeks of wildfires and Hazardous air quality. The only thing that broke that was several weeks of rain.

So this year I built up earlier in the year and did my 63 miles as soon as I felt ready, a month or more before my birthday. I think it still counts.

I did my first birthday ride on my 50th birthday five years ago. I took the day off from work just to do the ride. When a buddy of mine asked if I really took the day off, I said, "You only turn 50 once!"

Last May i did my first birthday ride, 62 miles. Looking forward to doing 63 this May.

I'm also going to do a century a month this year, Jan-March and Nov-Dec. will be in Zwift, the rest outside. I don't care for riding in the cold.

My best 'birthday ride' was 6.2x my age, back when I was 19. 118 miles. Day 1 of my first TOSRV, then had to do it all again the next day! Well, minus the ride to the start, and sightseeing/riding to dinner/and to lodging after completion of the first day official ride...so 'only' 110 miles the second day...

These days, I'm lucky to make it 1x age on any one day during that month... Heck, this past year we had 2" of SNOW on my birthday in May...63 this year, or just over a Metric Century...

I am 78 and don't worry about birthday ride distances; I do a 103 mi ride with 7,000 feet of climbing mostly above 7000 feet every year; I shoot for mid pack finishes and have been the oldest rider on the Grand Fondo for a few years.

I did my first ride your age on my 50th birthday; it foiled my wife and my sisters' plans to have 50 plastic "Old Crows" emplaced around the lawn in front of my work.

Since then I've only missed one, the year I had my heart attack, and had to shift a couple, one because of a work issue I couldn't shift and once because it was just too. darned. hot. The latter two I completed within a week or so, adding a couple extra miles.

Ride your age is a fun way to celebrate: I'm alive and well; I'm in pretty good shape for my age; and I'm not too old to go out and have fun. I hope I can continue the tradition for many more years!

I like the idea of adding a little extra if you can't get it done on the day. Maybe add a mile for each week of delay? No license to deduct miles for doing the ride early, of course.
