Yes. I don't ride motorcycles now, anyway. I'd continue cycling.

Yes. And I'd take the first $1500 and buy an e-bike to ride. Heh.

Do I have to give up Bike Forums? Or just bike riding?

Is there a relationship between the two?

So here's the thing... if someone gave me a billion dollars to stop cycling, I'd never have to work again. But then I'd have all this free time I'd wish I could be out cycling, When I'm at work and it's a nice day, I often wish I could be out cycling. So why would giving me even more time to hate not being able to ride be a good thing? At least with a job I can look forward to the weekend when I can get out and ride.

Not to mention that cycling is about the only exercise I get (aside from work), so that $1 billion would be at the cost of my health. Since you can't take it with you, I'd be selling off a few years of my life.

That depends. Does "cycling" mean you have to pedal? I mean, for a billion dollars, I could just sit and relax on the rear seat of my custom built, single crankset tandem, and have my chauffeur do all the work.

I think a good loophole, if the agreement says that you give up bicycling for $1 billion, is to sell all your bicycles and buy recumbent trikes. A tricycle is not a bicycle.

Just to put things in perspective, there are probably millions of people who rode bikes when they were young and gave it up for nothing.

I said "no" but then I read about the Alpenrose Velodrome and the surrounding park closing to be sold for housing development. I'd change to yes if I could buy the property and set it up as an ongoing trust. I wouldn't be able to ride, but being life-long always welcome at the velodrome would take some of the hurt away. (Maybe some winter rip out the concrete and re-pour with proper entrances and exits from the banking. (Though those funky changes area real home field advantage.)

John
I did that for about 35 years.

Glad I finally reversed that error.

Agree with those who think $100K would be a more reasonable figure in terms of a difficult decision.

I would if I could do this:

With a billion dollars I could afford starting a non profit lobby group to advocate for (I meant to say Finland) Denmark style safe bicycle infrastructure in U.S. cities. Since the necessary complexity of the matter would be different in each locale, I'd basically have work for the rest of my life. And I'm pretty sure the individual or group would rescind their abatement of my riding for the good I'd be doing with the money. After all, how do you reconcile being publicly known as the entity who forbade riding to the individual who turned around and used that very money to promote bicycle riding for all the right reasons?

In the original post, no such caveat was made. Therefore I'd take that chance and I'm pretty sure I would win both ways. A double headed coin.

Absolutely. There are lots of other things to enjoy in life, and I could basically have them all, and do a lot of good as well with that kind of money.

I'm not sure I believe anyone who says they wouldn't give it up for that much. IMO, it would be more interesting to consider a lower amount, like $500,000.

Hmmm 1 billion to give it up. Yeah I think I could do that unless I would have to give up all aspects including looking at and building bikes and talking bikes. Not getting to ride would suck but the billion would give me a chance at another hobby or a comfortable life with a small house (or maybe a tree house) lots of land and . Maybe I might get a quadracycle or build up a really fancy kick scooter with high end parts or build up a really fancy paddle boat with bike parts that and just live by lake or something. Though not one of those crappy rental type ones something slicker and sleeker.

I am a "cyclist" not a biker like those Neanderthal mountain bikers wearing their Fox jerseys.
Therefore, I can continue cycling since I do not engage in biking. Where is my $1B?

I’m thinking of a beach 75 degrees air and water temps year round. Paddle out to catch a few. Sit on the sand and play my ukulele. Take a quad out to tour my property. Motor over to the main island to play some golf, pick up a few things. Livin’ on island time.

No flats, no cars, no skinny shoulders, no what is the best lube, etc. etc.
