Because this bike can go so fast, it needs these massive wheels to keep it tethered to the ground! And that super-smooth surface really aids in braking--on a wet day you can easily stop within a city block, as long as you're not going too fast."

Now I'm starting to wonder if I might want to ditch my lightweight sew-ups and get a set of chromed steel rims!!

Quintessential BSO. Dang that thing is ugly. I may have nightmares of someone dropping that off for a refurb.

Craigslist is April Fools 365 days of the year; it's just that the occasional seller on it hasn't realized it yet

Okay you ingrates, it’s gone. Maybe some lucky collector snagged it.

If not, as we say in Chicago, just wait till next year!

Chicago Riding

If you have a death wish, ride a bike in chicago. Muggings, shootings and various forms of violent chaos await you. Chicago = armored tank not bicycle.

A suburbanite for sure, and the name fits.
For the record, from a former Chicago resident and where I still visit and ride annually, at least (-except for 2020): Bicycling mag named Chicago the #1 cycling city in the country in 2016, and it was still #6 in 2018 -haven't seen a later list. The lakefront trail is the busiest trail in the country. The North Branch trail is still my favorite ride, and I've cycled many great trails, etc. in 14 US states.

Thought so. Even the worst US metropolitan areas for bicycle riding generally have at least one or two spots that redeem them. IIRC, Chicago has a fair number of flexpost-buffered bike lanes, even though they're not a complete network

The car-centric generalizations from "Pagan" don't do anything to further the discussion or represent anything other than NIMBY fearmongering. As you say, the name fits. I'm taking bets whether their next post (if any) is another fine piece of Nextdoor-levels of trolling.

Not really. BiciMan is right, the lakefront is if anything TOO busy, there are many bike lanes, lots of bike commuting, and the North Branch Trail is fantastic. Our kids used to ride a path along the river from near our house to their karate classes at a city park and then to their HS. Very little of this bike infrastructure existed when we moved to our leafy neighborhood 30 years ago.

But okay, fine, Pagan, have it your way. Tell you what, show up for one of our regular C&V lakefront rides with that attitude and I'll mug you myself.

Oh, you mean that state where Lance Armstrong couldn't train without a motorcade because the locals in F250's are all too eager to "teach him some respect" under their Super Swampers?
