I did the first TT of the year last night, and I pretty much sucked eggs. Steady winds of 25-ish, with some gusts up in the 40's forecast, and I buy it. Cross Cross Tail Cross Headwind as it was an out and back. Plus, if a vehicle passed you there was the added bonus of the dead air you had to compensate for, then the sudden gust. No excuse, as everyone had the same. 12th
Today was a circuit race, with a square course. 2 miles dirt, and two miles pavement. I drove it in my truck, and it looked awesome. I then decided I better ride it and good thing I did. Holy crap. Where it wasn't washboard, it was loose. Every corner but one was an adventure. The upside, the legs opened up, and it went well. Since I'm not a sprinter, a fellow and I gave it a go with a little over a mile to go. We had a gap, and I thought we may stand a chance for second and third, as one guy did get off the front... Not to be. Caught us with a couple hundred feet to go, or so. Either way, we dropped a bunch, and I'll take a 7th.

Sprained my left ankle bad today while cycling. Didn’t realize the severity until now. Leaving out of my neighborhood I had to stop for traffic. I unclipped my right foot and stopped. Speed limit here is 45 mph, so most cars are doing atleast 55 mph. When I saw a small break in the traffic I got ready to go and at the same time a car turned enfront of me. I’m not really sure what happened, but my left foot ended up at a really odd angle still attached to the pedal. The pain was super intense but I was still in the middle of a 4 lane road with traffic coming so I clipped my right foot in and kept going. I was going to have to go about a half a mile before I could turn around but as I was pedaling the pain seemed to ease. So I decided to keep going. Finished the ride, and did more yard work and completely forgot about my ankle. Anyways now it hurts like hell and I can’t move it or put weight on it. Currently have it elevated.
This is not going to help with building the loft tomorrow.

sorry to hear about that. Have you consulted a medical professional on what to do? It seems like the standard protocol has changed from ice, compression and elevation to something else. perhaps @datlas can opine. it might be too late especially since you rode for a while.

I havnt talked to a doctor, the pain really just started about 40 mins ago and has gotten progressively worse. I have not iced it or done anything except elevate it, because like you said I think everything has changed.
Hoping Datlas or Mo can drop some useful medical knowledge.

Oh and something fun happened on the Cervelo today. Stood up on a hill and heard a popping noise in the front area of the bike. I stopped at the top of the hill, and made sure the wheel was tight. I then went to check the headset for play. I didn’t feel any play or see play but when I held the front break and rocked the bike it made the noise again. Was planning on regressing the headset and tightening it back down tonight but now I’m not functional.

Neighbor party kept me awake but I went to join the shorter ride I was whining about and I had a good time. Longish drive from home and we started part way up the canyon at around 3000 feet and climbed up to 8000 in less than 20 miles. Traffic was very light and there is a gate after several miles so there are no cars until returning to that gate on the way back.
Some of the closures are due to damage from the fire last September and it was eerie seeing vast areas of the forest blackened. There was some snow sticking around and it had black dust on it.
I was climbing well but they wanted to extend and do at least another 1300 feet so I went back down alone.

Just bought a pair of wide S Works 7 shoes off a guy. They are a size up from my Lakes and will be heat for cold weather.

so, R.I.C.E For first 24 then replace ice with heat after 24 hours? Also anti-inflammatory or just pain reliever like tylenol? Also, dry or moist heat or doesn't it matter?
I hope I don't have to use this advice but the way. trauma sucks.

As I was leaving the house for a ride around town I realized that someone possibly stole my saddle bag the last time I rode the bike. I’ll have to check around the house again in case it’s here.

Yup. You don’t want to put heat on an acute injury, but later (24-48 hrs) that’s what you want to promote healing if its not getting better on its own. Then ice again each time you make it worse by using it. I always use Tylenol first, unless I am treating inflammation specifically, then I use ibuprofen or similar.
