Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ah, what a relief to ride outside without the studs. It was like a weight had been lifted!

Ended up meeting up with a few of the guys for a short ride, which was nice, too.

Plus, the credits ends after a manufacturer sells 200,000 EV/PHEVs. So, it’s no longer available for Tesla’s and will expire in March for GM products.

I’m really curious about the base Taycan. Base price is $79,000 but with that brand the options kill you. With the credit it still might be attractive. I’m going to see what the year brings, and may take a look at them at some point. But, I’m sure my wife will tell me it’s her turn next, and it would be unwise to argue.
I have a hard time justifying spending over 50 on a car. The next phrantic family truckster is likely to be something of the MDX, Highlander, XC90, Pilot, Ascent variety (or if I get my way a shaggin wagon V60 x-country).

I looked at some of the info on the VW ID.4, but I’m not super thrilled with the quality of some parts on my Passat and am not sure I’d get another one.

The BB has arrived, and the Cannondale has been dropped off at the LBS for the BB & crank swap. The owner said, "Sure, I can do that! The thing is, timing. Can you leave it till Tuesday?" I reassured him I knew this wasn't a drop-in kind of job.

I also received the official Shimano FD bracket - they sold 31.8mm brackets to mount braze-on derailleurs, for bikes with oversize tubes. So far, so good. The thing is, the seat tube on the Cannondale 3.0 road frame is not directly in line with the center of the BB, but rather well forward of center. So, I'm going to have to make some kind of shim so the cage of the derailleur is correctly aligned with the chainring. I figure, as much Coke as Mrs. GeneJockey and The Younger Boy drink, I should be able to find the raw material somewhere.....

for every gallon of gas sold the feds get 18.3 cents per gallon and 24.3 cents per gallon for diesel. States get even more, it varies but usually in the 30 cents per gallon range. PA has one of the highest at 58.7/gallon and 75.2 for diesel.

Every E car costs the government if there is a tax credit.

Tax policies are what they are but oil companies make money so they pay taxes. Tesla made money last year and I'm shocked they did but they have a 5 Billion dollar accumulated loss. No taxes being paid for a while.

How much is Missouri's? To the tenth of a cent.

Oh, you mean the actual tire and wheel weight difference? Dunno, but that's not the most significant difference - it's the fact that those studded tires roll like octagons.

I remember when gas used to be cheaper when I went south of the border (GA). Haven't been down there in a while, but it looks like that may no longer be the case.

$20 Billion in subsidies to the fossil fuel industry annually. in the US alone, so there's that. Sure, lithium mining ain't so clean, but here's two words: Exxon Valdez. Here's two more: Deepwater Horizon. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

The point is that everything being said about electric cars not being ready for consumers was perfectly true maybe 6 or 7 years ago. But not so much now.

3 of us did 70 miles with 4K climbing. It was so windy at the start I almost said no. Felt dangerous until we climbed over into the next valley, then it was just windy but nice. Traffic seemed light and there weren't that many cyclists out, either. We did see some riders going the other direction waiting for a friend. We rode on to see of we could help, turns out he was on an e-bike that had no e. Nothing we could do and he was between a descent and a climb. Time to call AAA.
