Mr. Kaos, a thanks for a suggestion for a linking road - Brenner Ave., to link Farmedge in Levittown to Stewart. Used that today for a nice 30 out of my house. Good route.

Glad to be of some use. Crossing Wantagh Ave and 107 is a nasty business though, especially during the week.

Hope to be back in the saddle tomorrow after dealing with a family issue for the past 2 weeks.

Bike Path leaves Horace Harding before the L.I.E. Merge (path leads onto 248th st.)
Path leading from LIE service road, before the Cross Island (leads into Alley Pond Park).
Alley Pond Park, barricade blocks auto but allows bikes (upper right, grey line)
My route, 22 miles, took LIRR train home .

Thought we might see you this morning. Small group did 40 miles to Northport where a nice festival is in progress down by the harbor. Most of our regulars are en route to Montauk right now on the annual Ancient Mariner century. No way we could leave our very aged mutt unattended all day, so not this time for us.

Joe,
My mom passed last week and I just finished Shiva. This morning i was at synagogue, then came home and cut the lawn. I'm gonna cool off and get out on the bike. I need it to clear my head.

When I work 2 consecutive nights I really should sleep in between.
Bah. It was a gorgeous day and the other kids were out. Crab Meadow beach in Northport, 44 miles. I'll sleep tomorrow.

I know that feeling yesterday on the Cedar Creek Bike path the bridge was up for about 15 minutes. The bridge goes up and there were quite a bit of all types of cyclists patiently waiting to go in both directions. Needless to say 1 jerk could not wait and on the north end of the bridge he forced his way they like he was at the rail at the Belmont Stakes. A gentleman passed me shortly thereafter and commented if the rider waited a minute the path would have opened up.

Note the first domestic car to win was the "Locomobile". I think there are more of those on the road now than in 1908.

The Google map satellite image shows the ROW as just north of Orchid. I’ve seen this sign before.
I too love discovering this kind of historical tidbits of L.I.

Finally done with Florida. I did a 31 mile ride at 16.5mph.
When I was there I saw a cyclist out at 2:30pm. It was 95*, humid and he was on a concrete road that was straight as an arrow without a tree for shade anywhere. I don't know how he can ride in those conditions. Give me a Long Island snow storm and i'll be out as soon as it ends.

I always thought the ROW was the power line corridor south of Cornflower. To the east, south of the King Kullen office in Bethpage, some of the original banked turns are still existent leading into the power line corridor.

Yes, I see it on the satellite image. Going to need to poke around there one of these days.

Theres been talk of trying to connect the assorted sections of the MP in Nassau as a bike/hiking path. Not much county money to get it done I suspect.

I remember that bridge. I took an epic face plant into deep mud there at about age 14.
there is another set of vanderbilt bridge abutments further east, just into Suffolk Co. near Baylis Rd. I think there is a NYS historical marker at that one.

2 fantastic days to ride! I missed riding my age by a mile yesterday; went up to Nissequogue River St. Pk. which is a shuttered psychiatric hospital. Some sad sights there. The buildings have been deemed unusable due to asbestos IIRC.
