My wife just ran across a BG in a local pawn shop and thought, “I bet my husband would like that.” She was right, but it was too small, and the price indicated that the shop owner knew what he had, so it stayed there. But man, what a bike. I hope all is well, whether this is true or not.

That's very sad news. Among my collection, I especially value my early '76 Bruce Gordon Criterium for its superb ride and craftsmanship. I was able to get the original build sheet from Bruce who, unlike so many framebuilders, kept all his records.

Well, ****. I talked with him (briefly) at a few NAHBS confabs, including 2019 in Sacto. Same with Della Santa - I would not have guessed we would have lost either one in 2019, much less both of them.
I know some found him a tad prickly, and I got the sense that he did not suffer fools gladly, but I had no trouble getting along with him.
I have a friend's mid or late 70s touring Gordon in my basement (just holding it until he decides to sell it; too small for me). I may have to pull it out just to stare at it.

Confirmation, but no additional info at bicycleretailer.com. I don’t have enough points to post a URL, but it’s easy to find at that site under industry news.

Unlike way too many of the marketing dorks infesting the bike industry these days, the word "touring" did not scare Bruce. Most people on this board may know how well he was known for those bikes; it's like the crazy aunt in the attic of the bike world and the word scares people these days. Not BG--made the bikes, the racks, commissioned brilliant bags, too!

Mr. Gordon’s passing is another, all too frequent, reminder of the loss of true craftspeople from the world these days.
I know that @northbend, who is not posting during his cross-country tour and frequently rides his BG, had an “interesting” experience with Bruce Gordon a few years ago. Somewhere out there in the C&V archives is his description of that meeting.
