My history is leaving home at least 30 minutes before sunrise so that I finish before the temp on the street goes over 100 degrees.


2 weeks on a new e-bike, the power boost seems to help a lot and I now don't care if I ride 90 minutes at 100 degrees. ...........mid afternoon.

i have been riding average of 15-20 miles per day vs 10 miles per week. I am 66 with injured knee and arthritis. The ebikes has helped amazingly.
Let the haters say what they want.
They said the same stuff when I started using digital photography vs film, digital book bs paper, and cell phone vs landline.

Happened to me this weekend at a charity ride. Husband and I were talking to the cyclist (our age - late 60s) parked next to us, and he was really curious about my bike. When he found it was electric he said with a big grin "That's cheating!". I burst out laughing, patted his arm in a friendly way, and said "Yes, yes it is ... and it feels GREAT!" That made him laugh, and then he started asking some serious questions about my bike, especially the power available and the distance per charge. He was very interested, that was apparent. We finished up the conversation with him saying that he knows the time will come - sooner rather than later because the aches and pains are becoming too commonplace - when he'll be looking at an electric bike so he could keep up with his son on their rides together. Very, very nice man.

And at the rest stop my bike garnered a fair amount of interest from the volunteer staff - many of whom no longer ride because of injuries or time constraints, so they volunteer instead. I had to field a lot of questions, and got the impression that not many had tried out an ebike to see if it would help them return to cycling, although most said they had thought about it.

No hate, just curiosity. Every cyclist I've met seems to be more interested in what my bike can do and (surprisingly) how much it weighs than anything else. It is so cute when I have them hoist the back of the bike with one arm to see the weight, and their eyes pop and the "Wow!"s and "Holy Toledo!"s come flying out of their mouths. It seems to engender a sudden level of respect from them for little old lady me propelling that ton of bike down the road by my little old self.

Screw science. Let me tell you from personal experience having BTDT that the labor is NOT significantly less - besides the fact that any woman with half a brain demands (and gets) an epidural anyway regardless of how the birth proceeds, so guess what? No labor pains! Just a weird sort of pressure. Such a lovely drug.

Off the record: for a c-section it is all about the mother's recovery period afterwards. It is long, protracted and VERY painful. It's major surgery, and they cut deep. And the scar lasts forever and is out front and visible forever, too. Not fun. And on top of it you now have an infant demanding the entirety of your day, and night, too.

Nope nothing regarding birth is a freebie.

I agree. My 8 years of college I worked in surgery 3-11. I assisted on a couple of deliveries every month. Emergencies. I always thought the Pfannensteil incision would have more pain post op.

Hard to say because everyone's level of pain, and ability to recover, is different. At least my scar never got in the way of my cycling or riding afterwards, but I know of others who had the vertical scar who never had full flexibility midcenter afterwards- which may well be an issue with cycling on anything other than an upright.

As someone who's hoping to ride analog road bikes till the day I die, let me say that whoever talks ***** about e-bikes or e-bike riders can suck it.
Surely, they are upset about their pen!s size.

Every route I ride there are miles when I do not have power assist on. Do I ever notice it is more work to peddle a much heavier bike which also has more rolling resistance.

TOTALLY AGREE. Only you are in charge of your attitude and behaviour. IF and only IF the ebike helps you, then continue. In the movie about Julia Childs (and her first cookbook rejection), her husband summed it all up by saying "**** Them". And the rest of her career is history.

My wife is an avid reader and used to have 1000 books in her library. After our retirement and moving into RV we got rid of the hard cover books and she has collected almost all of her library in digital format.
she is getting e assist! Is that cheating also???
