Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Appellate clerk. We do everything, criminal, civil, vegetable, mineral, etc.

Another good friend is a dentist who also had a custom Moots but now he has off-the-rack, but top shelf, Specializedesesese.

He's also one of the strongest riders I know and even though he's pushing 70 will tear my legs off any day of the week. I don't make Cκŗvěłő jokes with him.

I ride with a lot of lawyers, most of whom are GCs at medium-big companies or partners at fancy downtown firms. They obviously have time to ride and, judging by where they live, they are doing pret-ty well for themselves. No other docs, no dentists.

Most of the guys I ride with are in finance or IT. They do very well it seems. It might help that Vanguard has their headquarters here.

Speaking of running, I hope everyone made note of the study revealed yesterday that running, as little as once a week, can prolong your life. I don't know any details, but the finding should be enough to take running out of the "stupid" category.

Many, many people are saying there was QPQ.

Yes, that Vol. I did not know he had a law degree. I used mine to worm my way into an academic career, once private practice no longer appealed.

I think Vol was doing finance/accounting stuff last time he was here. My wife isn't practicing either. Lawyer jobs mostly suck.

I remember him for weather, some Canada talk, and constant complaining. Miss that; he should come back.

Lawyering's ok for them whats suited to 'the life'. I wasn't. 9 or so years of corporate/tax (in the '80s), and I was done. Academic life has become toxic, sadly, but I should be out in a couple of years.

I am no financial genius, but if I were highly leveraged in the market I would certainly lock in most of my gains and rebalance things in anticipation of a serious correction.

Just saying.

I've thought about the academic side of it at our local law school. New dean has apparently made a mess, though.

My wife did the large firm, medium firm, in house thing for 15 years and was done. She kept thinking one would be better, but it all eventually sucked.

Your wife certainly stuck it better than I did!

I toyed with the idea of teaching law, but decided to move right away and back into linguistics/history of the language/communication theory and practice. My JD has been a very useful credential, though, and I've never regretted it or that legal experience. Our law school is still relatively sane, but sadly showing signs of going the way of others up here.
