Perfect weather outside. As usual, the hardest part is getting from the couch to the garage. All dressed in full kit.

I am faced with this challenge all season long and I find that the best way to get motivated is to drag myself onto the bike, get on the road, and absolutely hate the first five minutes so I can love the rest of the ride.

It felt so good to get out of the house on my own! Rode to town, got lunch, came home. Should have been easy. I was exhausted!

Success!! I wouldn't fault you for staying home today, cold damp riding is never a picnic.

If I'm feeling down but not totally out, and if originally planning a 30 mile ride, maybe I'll just do 10 or 15 or whatever.

You just have to say to yourself you are going to ride no matter what. Oh wait, it's raining... Never mind.

Waking up the morning after a really awesome ride can be great! Especially to the sound of songbirds and rays of sunshine sneaking through the shades.

sometimes I'll have this attitude, no set destination but rather several, so that I can turnaround at one of them. but I have to remind myself about a ride I took 2 summers ago where I just kept going until I was done, & then I was stranded. I should have truned around 1/2 way to destination & try again another day. but I was stranded & required a automotive bail-out. I would later try the same ride better prepared & was able to do the whole epic ride, without any assistance

Right now, my motivation is realizing that a bike ride is going to be so much more enjoyable than yet another "home workout" On Demand.

In search of motivation. ..
Ride! Whether it is a century or just to your mailbox! Four years ago I found myself losing my life (literally) on an operating table. It took years to recoup. It is a miracle I survived. Once I did recoup I bought a bike. I am 58 this coming Saturday and had not ridden a bike since I was 15!. Every day is a gift to us all. If you have the ability.. RIDE and enjoy every breath...every smell...every pedal stroke. You're alive! FEEL IT!!!!

Plenty of times I really didn't want to go out and ride, even on a nice sunny day. I've had that feeling even after I've changed into my cycling kit and pull a bike out of the bike cave. But I always tell myself just start the ride and if after 10 minutes I'm still in the mood to not ride just turn around and go home. It works for me and I've never turned around and went home, and have had some of my best rides when I did this.

My attitude and motivation is I’m not going to see this much riding time until I retire, which is a good 18 mos. off, so I’m out there when ever I can. I admit this morning was hard, just enough wind, and I’ve been riding on days when it’s 10-15 steady, gusts to 25, that I’ve gotten tired of. I ended up with 2 hrs, didn’t leave till 2PM, but did get out. I’m going to keep trying for 5 days per week till I have to return to work, maybe another mos, I have to say though that in the NYC area, this is a great time of year to ride, temps in the hi 40’s, low to high 50’s, it’s just perfect riding temperatures.
