25$ Schwinn Paramount find
I found it on Facebook.
The owner kept it for one day.
Was a 3 hours trip, but I think it worth.
Interested how is the bike situated in the Schwinn hierarchy, and a evaluation.

Counting the drive, you should at least break even should you flip it. If it fits, and you decide to keep it, you’ll be OK. Research series Paramounts from the early 90s, not to be confused with a Waterford Paramount. Pretty good ride should you keep it, just not a lot of value.

I know it is a Japan made bike.
It has a Deore group. The last Trek Singletrack 950 I sold, is probably in the same quality area. I sold it for 190$, and the top tube was scratched.

Also on Ebay was one sold for 238 plus 100 shipping.
But it had 38 bids, so probably there are people interested in this kind of bike.

That bike has Deore XT. The market is hot right now for riders like that. Cleaned and tuned up (new cables, housing, grease, tires?), and if nothing is wrong, could fetch $300+ in my market. It would probably take ~5 hrs of work though. I've driven 3hrs round trip for similar, but that bike was for me.
I'm assuming the chainstay is suppose to have that bend in it.

1-1/2 each way is not bad in my book for a 25. MTN bike.

I wasn't planning on buying this Paramount. I was buying a different bike and the seller said he had this bike that I could have $20. It wasn't something I was interested in keeping because it was way too small but I thought for that price I would take it. These are not to be confused with a 'real' Paramount from any earlier time. I think I sold it for around $125.

I've picked up a few MTBs with deore parts for around $125 (2 stumpjumpers and a Trek 950).
Given how old bikes are selling, I'll bet there's some value packed in the OP's bike. I'll bet it's worth north of $200 once cleaned up in a local sale. Hard to value bikes now because there are so many crazy prices out there, though.

The OP cleaning up his bike before he posts makes sense.
He has sold some nice bikes, I just can't imagine driving three hours for that bike. Local find, sure, still nothing to get excited about.

Why not? It's not your bike, right? I would have done the drive if I needed a top end vintage MTB. I drove that far to pick up an early 90s specialized stumpjumper and I paid more than $25 for it.

I bought my PDG 70 for $30 at a auction, Full XT in good condition, I thought I stole it, These are great bikes and I would buy every one at the price you paid.

25$ for that bike is a steal. looks to be full Deore XT (M732) you could sell the front derailleur for that much. that is a nice find there. Those Paramount MTB's were nice bikes. yes they are not Waterford Paramounts but nice none the less.

Getting back to the original poster's questions, here is a spec sheet. I belive the bike is a 1992. It has lugs, whereas earlier versions were tig-welded. I owned one of the series MTB's and it was a fantastic bike. I'd still own it had it fit. I made a nice profit on the sale. Bought for $75.00, sold for $200.00 with only a good cleaning and all moving parts cleaned and lubed.

I think you scored big with this one, regardless. If it didn't fit me and I had a family member that it fit, I'd clean it up, service it and give it to them. They can hand it down to their children some day.
