Awoke to 20 degree air temp
Awoke this morning to 20 degree air temp. Had planned on riding to the doctor's office as it is easier than driving and fighting in traffic during rush hour, but it is just too much for the knees at that temp. Winter has come early this year.

Was thinking of a ride today of 20 miles or so but the temp was in the high 30s F and I chickened out. It is amazing how Narragansett Bay and the nearby ocean modifies temperature to warmer than surrounding area in winter and cooler in summer. I can remember as a young man of 20 y.o. walking out in flip flops into 6 inches of snow. How the mighty have fallen.

Awoke to 20 deg. air temp
I did a ride in Texas at 29 deg. and windy. I learned about double arm warmers and heavy gloves. I lost the ability to shift or use the brakes; I guess being from CA makes me a wimp when it comes to low temp. riding. The Texans didn't consider this more than a little hassle.

Couple of weeks ago went out at 37f, 25 miles, and back at 45f, not much wind and sunny. 3 layers and tights, but I was able to use my fingerless gloves. Not bad. It helped with my attitude that it was sunny.

When I was doing CycleOregon support, we had a couple of frosty mornings. Whew!!!
I hate camping then busting thick frost off of the tents.
Actually, we had a "box truck". The coldest day I took my smallest tent and put it right under the truck. Not warm, but a little extra protection from the elements.
I've been experimenting with warm weather sleeping bags, but there are times to dig out that 40 year old bag from when I was a kid.

A number of years ago here in Tucson, we had a few days that got into the high teen's.
Two people died from hypothermia.......In their front yards.
The natives here don't do cold well at all. The transplants like me seem to fare better.
