In other words, he moved as far away from the northeast as he possibly could.

Good ride today. After the ride I got carry out sushi for mrs datlas and me. I had an odd experience there. I walked in, the place is mostly carry out but has 2 small counters with about 8 stools for customers to eat. There were 3 people at the bar, presumably a college student and her middle aged parents. The mother saw me walk in, in my kit (black tights, club long sleeve jersey, helmet) and STARES at me with an expression of both curiosity and fear. It was pretty awkward for me. I did my best to ignore her and figured she is from bum**** PA and not used to seeing a cyclist like that. Still made me feel a bit creepy. I don’t recall having been looked at like that in recent memory. I am sure minorities get this look all the time but I am a middle aged white guy in suburbia for goodness sake!

I started the latest project for the Habanero which is new brake and shifter cables and housing, plus new bar tape.
Getting the (old tape) residue off the bars is a pain. Best way? I tried fingers but not ideal. Maybe a scotch brite scrubber sponge??

Put some alcohol on the scrubber. What kind of tape leaves residue? Duck? Gorilla? You can't be that cheap.

It’s some crappy Performance house brand bar tape I put on several years ago. It has adhered to the bars in small annoying amounts.

All this talk about waxing your chain makes me think about doing it. Let's see, I'll need an ultrasonic cleaner, crock pot, two kinds of wax, Teflon, space in the garage to "cook", or.... I could buy a can of spray chain lube. 30 seconds of application. I guess my chain will last 1000 miles less? I'm not sure.

Lacquer thinner will take that off in a jiffy. Of course be careful around paint, plastics, logos, etc as it could remove more than you want it to.
EDIT: It will make goo of the old tape in the process.

Proceed in the time-honored tradition of thousands of mechanics and bike owners before you and cover it up with another roll of tape.

Why an ultrasonic cleaner? Why two kinds of wax? Teflon? Is 10 bucks for a crockpot going to put you out? You don't have a 2' of counter and the airspace above it?
Must be awesome to have intimate knowledge of the trade-offs with no first-hand experience.

Took the Cervelo out for the first "real" ride. It is a fine beast, but not as tame as the Domane.
Handling is certainly lighter and more responsive - this'll actually take some getting used to so that I don't give it too much input. Bumps and cracks are more pronounced than the magic carpet ride of the Domane, but not really bothersome... not over the course of a measly hour, at least. HOLY **** do these metallic pads squeal like crazy with the wet grit that's on the roads; I'm tempted to swap pads with the Domane (it has resin pads) and pass the squealers on to whomever buys it.
Also, ran in to some grad student on the paths that had an assignment that included taking a selfie with a handsome cyclist. There were none around so she had to settle for me.

Do you clean your drivetrain?
