1983 PRO-10

Thanks, for those curious about the PRO-10 bikes, Peugeot created its own in-house custom racing bike frame building division in 1974,
the same year that Raleigh did the same with its SBDU (Specialist Bicycle Development Unit).
The model designation PY was adopted for the Prestige Peugeot machines.

In addition to building the Peugeot cycling team's bikes, Prestige Peugeot offered off-the shelf machines, including limited edition replicas of Tour de France champion Bernard Thevenet's PY-10,
to the French and European market as well as completely custom made framesets with a wide choice of components featuring the Spidel Group (Simplex, Stronglight, Mafac and Maillard).
Framesets were available in 531 Extra Legere (531c), 531 and 753 tubing with choice of geometry and colours.

Depending on the frame tubing or components, the PY could be available in the following varients
PY-10 CP (1977-1981)
PY-10 EC (1978-1979)
PY-10 FC (1983-1986) (Carbon Fibre)
PY-10 LC (1980)
PY-10 LCP (1979)
PY-10 P (1988)
PY-10 S (1980-1983)
PRO-10(1982-1985)

The PY-10CP (Course Professionelle) was always the top-end model with 531 Extra Legere or 753 tubing (1980 only). This was rebranded in 1982 as the PRO-10 (531 Extra Legere only)
which proved to be the last model built by the Prestige Peugeot division. The bike here is the PRO-10 which was offered only in the 1982 catalogue (custom request after)
and was essentially the same as the 1980-81 PY-10CP except for a braze-on front derailleur and drilled rear drop-outs. Like the PY-10CP, it was available only by custom order with an eight-month wait usually.

The cable guide came with the frame when I bought it last year on ebay.fr, and I believe it was on the bike when the previous owner bought it from the son-in-law of the possibly-original owner, but I have no idea whether it is original to the frame. I have mixed feelings about the clip. One could surmise that the frame builder got the exit angle of the internal cable route too large, then added the guide as an afterthought to keep the cable from arcing out too far away from the frame. On the other hand Mario Miosotti seems to have been quite a clever fellow based on the info I can find, so maybe I'm missing something.

My first bike was a gold Motobecane Mirage 27", back in my early teens, around 1970. Man, did I love that bike. It had the infamous brake set-up with the 2nd pull levers by the handlebar (Weinman?). Never did have a problem with it (but then again, what did we know as young kids...)

I bought an identical bike to this when I was in the Army in Germany in 1972 thru the French military Post Exchange that was located in the same town I was stationed, Kaiserslautern. Except it was a 23" frame. The model was called a PX8. Same color, components, fenders, rack and lights … with yellow bulbs, of which I think I still have a couple. It cost $60! Several of the guys stationed in our unit bought Peugeots thru the French PX while there. That's where I taught myself how to use and shift gears. And that you don't climb a hill on the 52-14 sprockets.

Interesting that I acquired a nearly identically-equipped, almost derelict Moto a couple of weeks ago. Similar rack, same fenders, same lights with factory wiring, same stem (and steel bars?). It had been upgraded around 1979 with a set of Campy/Mavic tubulars, Suntour RD, 14-34 freewheel and Brooks saddle.

This is a 1985 Peugeot Triathlon that I upgraded to 9 speed with Ultegra Brifters, brakes etc. Had it powder coated as well.

Looks like the fragile paint is in truly exceptional condition - I'd be sourcing original equipment parts to recapture its former glory.
Mine is later - 1975 - and original, but with the patination of many years and miles... :0)

Laced up some high flange Pelissier track hubs that I bought from CV-6 to some Araya rims for my Grand Jubile.

The high flange hubs look so good on a bike of this age

I don't think this has been shared here. It's still a bit of a mystery but believed to be a French bike. Actual had it out for 40 miles today and with it's tight rear end it's not the smoothest on the rough roads. But it's also a rocket when you get on it.

I think I have been remiss in sharing this. This is a true barn find, one of two. I bought this and the frame from the other from Mike Fraysse. The other frame is really rough. This one took hours of wet sanding with 2000 sandpaper to remove the grunge and in some places, the paint failed. Sanding was followed by clear coat safe rubbing compound and then wax. It is original save the wheels and saddle. I substituted tubulars for the original wheels. Nice ride.

Here are a couple you may not have seen before . The first is a Phillipe, just the frame in this picture, and the second is the French Mystery bike , shown as received by the bike exchange and complete. Best guess is that it was a local builder in a smaller French town. probably built up originally in the late 60's. finally , aCote d Azure, a entry level bike built by Mercier.
