Many gyms and workout facilities are closed thanks to SARS-CoV-2, and even if they're open you'd be risking yourself and community by going.

So what are you doing instead?

On demand workouts. My wife has a BeachBody subscription so we're both getting in a decent half hour workout before we need to "head to work".

Every morning, and afternoon, I lift a 3-4 gallon of water (weighs 8lbs/gal.) over a horse fence and pour it into another bucket hanging inside the fence, from a post. 2 buckets to be filled. Then there's manure to get up, usually use the end of a manure fork to "squish" it, so it can dry and be used as fertilizer for the lawn. Also helps that have hand weights, a treadmill with good features, and a soloflex(but I'll admit it's more often used to hang clothes to dry). 2 story house, so can get some exercise on the stairs. Bike riding around the neighborhood, and there's a small lake nearby if we want to float around on kayaks. Seems the only thing missing sometimes is motivation!

Im taking this opportunity to convert muscle to fat...... errrrrr.... energy storage.

The gym I go to is on the campus of the University where I work. Between my travel during X-mas break, the gym having limited hours until the students return, and then my avoidance of the gyms due to students returning from international hot spots (before the travel restrictions went into effect) Ive only been to the gym 2 times in 4 months. I typically lift weights there once a week.

I bought a sit-up bench and a pair of dumbbells so I could do a limited workout in the living room. Bicycling is my cardio.

No restrictions on solo bike riding here. Now if only the weather would cooperate (snow yesterday, 25+ mph winds, etc.). We've had one day where it got to 60F for the first time since October. Now it's back to 20s and 30s for another week.

I don't know of any, but aren't there like six governors who haven't issued closure orders? I was thinking maybe some in those states.

Instagram live workouts or whatever other free options online. I have VHS and DVDs that are thirty years old as a back up, that i used to do before i joined a gym, along with some hand weights.

Gave up the gym when the goofs would just sit on the benches / stations staring at their phones for 15 min or so. No sharing, putting stuff back, etc. Fk-it. Bought 2nd hand iron and 8 pair of dumbell handles, couple of benches, rowing machine, etc. Put up a pull-up bar. Rigged home-made TRX with climbing rope, biners, elect conduit handles. Never looked back.

Indoor rower that I use most days. Concept2.com have some online challenges to keep it interesting - currently doing an April Fool challenge - the date x 1000m, so at least 1000 m on the 1st, at least 2000m on the 2nd etc, up to 15000m on the 15th. I recently installed a SoloStrength bar for body-weight exercises. I still ride, though. My daughter's a five-day-a-week competitive swimmer, but she's shut out of the pool, so she runs on the treadmill and lifts a few weights. I've tried to get her interested in rowing, but so far no success.

Added a few things since this whole thing started, and I can pretty much get the same workout at home that I do at the gym. Not as many specific machines to work certain muscles at the exact same angle as the gym, but it's good enough. If I were a gym rat I'd probably be losing my mind, but as a cyclist first, I'm mostly trying not to have the upper body of an 8 year old. So what I have is good enough. Adjustable bench was the key addition, can do so many exercises on it. Set of spin lock dumbbell handles, one straight bar and one EZ bar, a pile of weight plates, different sets of resistance bands, doorway pull up bar, and lastly I'm waiting on a simple cable pulley apparatus I bought online. I even have a portable air conditioner for those really hot days in the garage!

I don't need gym membership to maintain strength and fitness. I have more than enough equipment at home to do full body workouts and I continue to ride my bike outside. Use your imagination and think outside the box, there are so many ways to keep fit without going to a gym.
