Is this seat post bent?
This is a Serotta Atlanta with Reynolds Colorado tubing. I think it's a 1998. I was able to ride the bike and it felt really nice, but I can't tell if the seat post or anything else might be bent. I didn't try to insert the seat post any lower. It's an American Classic Equipment seatpost.
It may be the scratches or shadowing are making it appear bent (to me)?
Does anyone have experience with these bikes? I don't need another bike, but this one seems nice. The chainstsays bend out towards the rear.

That model seems to be prone to bending. I pulled one out of a Fuji mt. bike that had about a 30* bend in it. Smiles, MH

To my eyes it seems to have a slight bend, easiest way to check is remove it and put a straightedge to it or roll the tube across a table or countertop.
I wouldn't let that stop me from buying that bike.

After snapping an old Campagnolo aero post I can attest to just how dangerous it can be. It's quite easy to impale yourself on the stub left in the seat tube. My Campagnolo post didn't bend at all before it just snapped without warning. If it was my bike I would get rid of the post just to be safe.

If it is a bargain, buy it and put a nice cheap Kalloy seatpost until you find the rare 600/tri-color!

Yes, nice frame I posted to looking for one of these some days ago to try and not be tempted. The seller is knowledgeable about what he sells but does not tend to negotiate much. I am a bit surprised it has not sold but then again there are some other serottas around in NE at similar pricing that look a bit tighter on components. I did not notice the seatpost issue, wonder if the seat tube suffered any distortion.
I have a long thompson elite post in my slightly too small fuso, it seems to be a nice post for extra extension.

Hmmmm. Didn't know about the potential breakage or bending! Have two in service as a result of being part of the bike upon purchase. They still slide up and down so they must be good. I will add to the pre ride check list!
