Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Guru Bike Feedback

Hello,

I have a chance to go get a custom bike from Guru https://www.gurubikes.com/locale/
I haven't really found anything positive or negative about the bike or company.
Has anybody had any experience?
Does anybody own a Guru bike.
Was looking at the RL frame with Rival or 105 components.

I've been on a Geneo since '07 and I love it (they replaced that line with the Photon). On our group ride today a buddy told me he had borrowed a Photon from a friend and never wanted to get off it. If, or when, it comes time to get a newer bike it will certainly be a Guru.

Got the evolo-r this year. I truly love it. No question. Light and stiff. Ideally wish I could truly desrcibe it, but it's just night and day compared to my cervelo.

Both the Photon and the Evolo-r are the higher end carbon bikes, I would be interested to know if the RL frame is also good quality?

I have the Photon and love it. Very stiff in all the right places. My only complaint is that the paint is not up to pair with the frame. I would recomend them.

There is no paint on a Photon, unless you mean the logo. As I recall, they don't paint the frame because the paint is too heavy.

OP - I can't speak to a bike I've never ridden (I know certain people can, but I can't). I can tell you that I was very impressed with the evolo-r frame, in all aspects. I would imagine that all of their products share similar attention to detail, etc... Plus, their internal guys will talk to you about bikes for as long as you want. I am also a big fan of my dealer... I know not much of that helps, but it's what I've got.

You are correct but there is a thin layer of clear coat and my frame had a small run on the top tube. I have read other reports about similar problems. Like I said before I love the frame but their paint process is not on par with there frame technology.

A friend I ride with has a couple, both custom ti, and they are very nice bikes indeed. He had a problem with his first frame that was covered under warranty with no problems, they replaced it.

Last year I was in my shop for a fitting on my Crono Alu tri bike, the shop owner said they were in receivership. I'm not sure if they still are, or if they even were, just shop talk from the owner. I do love my frame very stiff and aero, fits me like a glove.

Here's a post on the Vsalon about the issue:
