Specialized Sequia - Good C/A Option?
Saw a thread about this in C&V and thought this looked like a good option for the C/A crew. Thoughts?

looks like a fine choice to me... of the three, I think as a clyde I would go for the midrange bike...I like the group set better personally...but it looks like a healthy all purpose road bike.

Nice that Spesh are making more steel bikes, but it looks to be put together with bargain basement parts for the price.

- Appeal to the die hard steel lovers
- Appeal to the gravel bike lovers
- Appeal to the single gear crank set lovers

I think it's odd that the middle range one comes with a 11-36T cassette at the back, a 48/32T at the front and a 105 derailleur which is not at all rated to handle that range of gears (maximum cog 32T, maximum capacity 37T where as for this setup the required capacity is 41T). Unless Specialized are doing some special magic on the parts, it doesn't seem like they're the right ones for the job.
Of course Shimano force this sort of thing by making their mountain rear derailleurs incompatible with road shifters.
Although it's interesting that apparently the new 9-speed Sora brifters will work with a 9-speed Alivio mountain derailleur.
Sorry as I built my own monster cross bike with drop handlebars and mountain gearing, I've spent a lot of time thinking about this stuff!

Not for me --- Looks like another 25 lb niche market hunk of junk
--- An original Specialized Sequoia holds much more appeal

FFS. This is why I don't bother posting much anymore! Instead of engaging me, I get nitpicked.
11 and 10 speed Shimano mountain derailleurs are not compatible with 11 and 10 speed road shifters without some third party converter. This is what I mean.
Well given that they broke the compatibility with other 10 speed groupsets with the new Tiagra 4700, I wasn't assuming that the new Sora would necessarily be compatible with other Shimano 9 speed groups. Apparently it is. Good.

It made sense to me, I knew exactly what you meant and I share the same sense of frustration. I really hope that Shimano catch up with where these new bikes are going and release STI levers that work with their mountain bike components.

I really like the bike at first and began to lust for it. I even almost went to order one, but your right about the prices being wack. They are way high for what you are getting. Just ordered the new carbon salsa cutthroat for less. I already have a steel fargo to fill that niche.
