What's to "explain"? It's a soul-less, generic modern bicycle with a gimmicky radial-spoked front wheel and all the charm and appeal of a UPS truck. But since it's rideable, and won't shed parts every time you hit a bump, the "new toilet paper" bike boom automatically makes it worth some randomly-selected four-digit number.

I totally agree with what you wrote about Brooklyn, hipsters, their inflated and unrealistic opinions of themselves, and the prices they ask for less than special items. That said, I've had decent luck with local Craigslist for a few of my bikes (two Bassos, two Lotus', a Bianchi, the Deda). Only one was in Brooklyn though, all the way down by Brighton Beach, while the others were from Manhattan, Sunnyside, Forest Hills, and Long Island.

In my experience, you get all types here, which means there are definitely clueless hipsters thinking their rusted-out POS drewed fixies are worth $800, OTOH there are also plenty of rich people who bought an expensive toy a few years ago, never used it, and just want it gone. So there are definitely great deals to be had on Craigslist here, it's just almost impossible to get to them before someone else, even if you sit there all day refreshing the page (which I may or may not have done once or twice in my life--even before the pandemic gave me more time than I know what to with. Don't worry about me, though, I'm fine, More than fine, really.).

For instance, I couldn't get to this fast enough. The ad is still up but no one returns my emails so I'm thinking, if it's not just a scam, someone doesn't understand that they're supposed to delete the ad after their item is sold. I would have really liked to have one of these (at this price).

I think he meant the seat clamp at the top of the post... every bike I've ever had that was trailing behind the post, except for one bike I set up for a achondroplasia dwarf, who had abnormally short arms and legs. I started with a 20" BMX frame, used the crankset off a mid-kids bike that had shorter than normal crank arms and a rather small chainring, used a fairly tall 'stingray' style handlebar pulled back far enough that they could reach it, and a large cushy seat mounted as far forward as I could by flipping the seat post clamp around.... I started using a sting-ray style banana seat, but she had trouble getting on/off it, so the conventional 'comfort' seat was a better match.

ugh, even for the 70s, that Pewww-joe is a BSO. soft heavy steel frame, simplex derailleurs, steel cotter pin cranks, steel rims... worth maybe $100 but definitely not anything north of $1000.

heh, if its as old as the bike, odds are good it has a leather piston that long ago dried up and stopped sealing.

$3000 is crazy money but I they weren't bad bikes. I rode an orange U08 for 10 years back in the 70's and absolutely loved the bike and how it handled.
After getting off a beat up Schwinn Varsity I bought used, the Peugeot was like a sports car.
I sold it years ago but recently came across and bought a new in the box 1975 model in 25" for $550 and thought I got a deal.
So I'd put the bike above at maybe $250-300 at best but with a bit of cleaning and some new rubber, the French bike guys will scarf that right up for a good bit more.

You can make or buy new seals, and a little grease does wonders for those old pumps. The killer is when their dented up from being used as a baton or hammer.

honestly if that pump is in good order you might be able to sell it for the price of the bike by itself. People looove their authentic vintage frame pumps.


just make sure to put "NOS" in the item description somewhere and you're good
