They do this now with age where you can filter on KOM by age.
So a pull down field where you can explain your ride in order of most honorable:
1 Solo
2 Group
3 Tail wind
4 Motor pace
5 On drugs
6 Holding car
7 In the car
8 Motor in bike
Then you can filter and see all drugged and non drugged (self reported) there are.
I don't think Strava should edit anything.
We'll maybe somethings. I'd prefer they not have decent only KOMS, but descent are part of the course.

I'm not competitive anymore. I did a ton of high school and college sports. When you grow up you don't have time to really be in race shape unless you're hella motivated and work a stress-free job/life.

Hard intervals are how I deal with stressful days. 90 minutes of shutting out everything except fighting your instinct to let up is as good as any meditation for clearing your mind.

its easy if you dont assume youre an elite athlete and can be competitive with the KOMs. especially if you live in an area like boulder, or a densely-populated place.
i love having stats of acquaintances on the segments to use as a reference. top 5 placing are for younger people live on the bike and get paid to ride. not for the rest of us holding down corporate jobs

9) Flying Start at the bottom of the hill
I've got my eye on a 20+ MPH, 1/2 mile hill climb KOM (I have #3 at the moment), and hit the bottom of the hill at 33 mph. The current KOM holder took a different route to the bottom and hit it at 13 MPH for a much more impressive climb.
10) Slow riders that will sprint once in a while vs fast riders. It is always interesting to see the KOMs of riders snagged just riding along on newly defined segments.its easy if you dont assume youre an elite athlete and can be competitive with the KOMs. especially if you live in an area like boulder, or a densely-populated place.

Apparently many "Masters" riders can be very competitive, but I always think that I'm competing with riders half my age on Strava.

It is fun. It is also reflective of some really good performances and riding ability. I think most viewers can sort out the names they see and know vs. the unknowns with super-hero names.
It is not a race, just like training rides and grand fondo. Still - I like looking at KOMs esp on new roads and encouraging junior to grab one every now and then.

Hill repeats with everything I've got, and I'm too tired to care about whatever it was that had me in a bad mood earlier.

The article gives too much time to strava and not enough time to the actual people he was cheating in races all over.

Yeah, not even close.
And Strava is like the new and improved Crossfit. You can compete against your small local group now with running, cycling, whatever... instead of just lifting and doing burpees.
I'm an ex-crossfitter. I did that gig for almost 2 years. Only thing I really enjoyed and wanted to do more of was olympic lifts.
Even the people that are 'good at crossfit' don't do crossfit. They jam a ton of PEDS into their bodies and then do heavy heavy lifting, some skill work, and some cardio. Their training for winning the games is nothing remotely close to what an advertised workout of the day is at a regular crossfit gym.

Is this guy snagging KOMs along a 50 mile ride?
It should still leave openings for those who wish to soft pedal to the beginning of the segments, then hammer them hard.

Its nice for finding suburban trails. There's a trail near my house with 3 people so I'm getting ready for my first 4th place finish. And I'm going to setup the hill climb to my house to see how long I can hold onto that before I see people riding up the dead end hill trying to take my kom. It does force me to try and go faster when I've been a more casual rider. I'll have to try not to let it consume me.

You can set a segment and keep it private or make it public. If private your rides will be the only one logged to that segment even if other riders go through it and if made public it's open to anyone and each PR will be displayed on the leader board.

Just another reason to not give a crap of Strava KOM's.
