handlebar accessory spacers
I want to put a display panel directly in the middle, of the flat bars on my 700c hybrid, it has two clamps are on either side of the stem. this particular display has a larger ~32mm clamp and came with adapters for 22.5mm bars, which mine are except in the middle, where they are 25.4mm (1"). So I want to buy a couple spacers from 25.4 to 31.8
I know in the past I've done funky stuff like cut rings from inner tubes, and I used to have a junk box full of spares of those sorts of adapters from various headlights, bells, speedos, etc, but I purged that along time ago.
normally, I'd just go down to my friendly neighborhood bike shop and get something from the service guy. but covid. ;-/

But if you are in a real rush just buy a rubber strip/pad in about 1/8 to 1/4 thickness and cut a strip to use between the rings and the bars, like shims they sell for handlebar/seatpost reflectors. You should be able to find it in almost any hardware store

most of those handlebar to stem shims are aluminum. this displaly has the typical handlebar clamps (two of them), and O diont think they'd put enough pressure on the metal sleeves to keep them from slipping. I need plastic/rubber spacers. yeah, cutting the right thickness rubber strips, now where do I find that? meh.
k, i calculate it needs to be 1/8" (3.2mm) thick.

That's a good suggestion. Self-fusing silicone tape is available in a wide variety of colors, including clear, at any Home Depot, Lowes, etc. It won't bleed adhesive or gum up your bars the way electrical tape can.

It also only adheres to itself, so it comes off clean by cutting with a sharp blade. I like it for terminating bar tape wraps, too. I got an assortment of 10 colors cheap from an EBay seller.

I've always fitted accessories to handlebars using soft plastic or rubber strips. accessories like computer mounts, lights, reflectors, and bells usually come with such a strip. it should not be hard to find such a thing but you might need to be a little creative and improvise.

I actually keep a roll of 1/2" wide black velcro ONE-WRAP handy, it sticks to itself as you wind layers to get to the thickness you need. Soft and will not mar handlebars or equipment. It will allow for compression for mounting rings to fit snugly.
We buy it in 75' rolls but 1'm sure you can get a smaller quantity or similar in Lowes or Home Depot
https://www.ebay.com/itm/VELCRO-BRAN...MAAOSwxONfRVzU
Also comes in other colors, great around the shop for many uses.

well, i finally gave up and got a set of the split aluminum shims meant for a bar clamp, and it worked perfectly. I was afraid the clamping force of the plastic bracket wouldn't hold them tight enough but it works quite nicely
