Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I didn't think even people in the 41 could be this dense.

I'll explain four ewe, cents stupid people need even more help then the rest of us.

If it has anything to due with a current sporting event that has happened within the last day or to, just don't post it. Don't even hint at it. Don't even think about it. If its 3 days old, than your ok because people should've watched it bye than.

on a car like that, you want upforce, because it's as aerodynamic as a brick.

when i watch tour de france live , i wont talk about anything that happens while the race is going on. then there is the polite 30 min grace period to use the rest room and even grab a bite to eat before conversation may begin. in the title of any thread just post spoiler alert, and if u dont want to see it dont click on the thread its that simple

I'll make it easy for you. If it's about a professional bike race, post about it in the professional cycling forum. Don't post information about what happened in a race in the title.

Some people have yet to grasp that internet discussions are real-time and that many people like to discuss events as they happen and immediately after. This behavior is a "spoiler" for those people who like to maintain a temporary ignorance until they can experience the event outside of real-time. The easy solution is to stay off the intarwebz until after viewing the event, but some people would just rather complain in a futile attempt to make the intarwebz behave the way they'd like.

Well, coasting didn't seem to know, but he may have an excuse because he lives in the UK where English is a second language.

For a 3 week long event where many people cannot watch in real time, "staying off the Internet" is not a realistic solution, especially when things are compartmentalized where people can have live discussions. It really just takes a moment of thought and consideration for those who may not be able to watch until the evening.

I'm watching right now and find the complaining about spoilers incomprehensible.

Pesonally I don't care but I understand that others do. Why is it so hard to keep revealing information out of titles?

Bike Forums has been dealing with this issue for longer than the 5 years I've been here. They've come up with a very sensible, workable rule. Post only about the TDF in the Professional Cycling Forum. Don't put spoilers in the title of threads there (because those titles show up on the main page)

Thus, those who don't want to know the outcome of the stage until they have a chance to watch it can stay out of the Professional Cycling forum.

And those who want to discuss it in real time can do so. All interests accomodated.

If you want to be an ass, intentionally f with other people, for no advantage to yourself, other than being an ass, there are rules in place to deal with you. See Sturm on the the perma ban list.

What sturm proved is that regardless of anybody's rules, spoilers will happen on the internet. It's a fact of life that is simply not going to change. The constant complaining and hectoring about them is far more annoying to me.

Sturm would have ben a 90 second problem, but for a clueless moderator, who has now been reeducated.

And your argument is a bit silly: whatever rule we make someone will always breakit; therefore we should have no rules.

By that logic, we should not have rules against murder because no matter how hard we try, someone will still kill someone.

And please tell me the possible downside to the current approach of Pro Cycling only and not in the title. It in no way stifles discussion.

By contrast the downside to your approach is to substantially reduce participation in the road forum for the month of july.
