Paramount PDG OS
Ad says ready r=to ride, needs paint. Asking $280. I know the Paramount name, but don't know the ins-and-outs of what's desirable. Any thoughts appreciated.

The pdg line of Paramounts are not very collectable. Good bikes though. I have a top of the line pdg 7, which was built by Panasonic and rides great. Bought it for a song, put $500 into it, and now it's probably worth about half that.

I’ve always read these are nice riding bikes that are under-appreciated in the vintage enthusiast world. Could mean a great deal for a nice bike or a frustrating pass if the seller thinks any Paramount commands all the dough.
Crankset and hubs are worth near as much as the whole bike. Thinking $200 +/- $25.

That's a Waterford Paramount, not the same thing as the unicrown forked PDG Paramounts (which are also great bikes). The Waterford built bikes command more than the offshore PDGs. That said, the repair to the left chainstay/drop out hurts it in terms of value.

The seat post, seat post QR and saddle as well as the poorly installed shifters and the chain stay repair make me cringe, but the Phil Wood hubs, crankset (a triplized Dura Ace!? -- what's the FD?) and shifters are worth the asking price, so checking it out would be worthwhile. i'd want to know who did the repair on the frame, and i'd check that carefully. If I was comfortable with the answer, and the bike fit and rode ok (realizing it likely needs a full tear down to do its best -- and get a proper seat post!) and the wheels were true I'd be ok with this as a rider for near that price -- the parts are worth it alone if not thrashed.

Thanks for all the info. I wanted to check with the experts on whether it was something special. Sounds like not, esp with the issues you mentioned. Not to mention it doesn't look like it's been treated very well....

That Waterford built PDG Paramount, the non-unicorn fork and lack of internal cable routing, determine not Asian built, is easily worth the asking price even if it is just the frame, rest of the bike is free. Of course that’s only if it fits you, and you can live with the paint. White is pretty easy to touch up, I bought one of these frames a while back, needed paint, just touched it up, great ride
