Withlacoochee Trail Ride Oct 7 - anyone riding?
Any BF members riding this coming Sunday? Always a fun ride, but I always leave early in the morning to miss all the slow folks and folks with kids. By the time I get back, they are done riding and off the trail.
If you're in the area and want an easy trail ride, check it out:

And while I'm talking about rides, the Gainesville Cycling Club Horse Farm Hundred is coming up the end of the month. Great back roads, gorgeous horse farms, great food and IMHO, the best ride in Florida. Horse Farm Tours is a shorter version of the Hundred with a different start location.

There was a thread about this some time back and there are a few riders going. I'm actually not going to start in Inverness but further south and be in Inverness in time to sign in by nine. I live closer to the southern end of the trial and couldn't see driving that far to ride my bike back this way. Here's hoping the weather is as good as it has been the last few years. Right now, it appears it may be just a tab bit hot.

I live about 70 miles northeast of the "north" end of the trail. If I did ride would it be okay for me to start at the north end and ride to Inverness & register and then ride back to the north end?
Thanks... Jay...

Jay,
Why not. The start is 'whenever you want' so I don't know why you can't start 'wherever you want'. The registration desk is open at least until 9 if not later.[

I plan to ride from Inverness starting between 8 and 8:30 with some friends from Orlando. Look for a Blue and Gold WV jersey. If you see me give out a big Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Mountaineers. Or just come up and say hello.

As it turns out, we'll be in Inverness the weekend of the 20th to ride the trail with friends. My wife is interested in a trike, so I have rented her one to try in Inverness for Saturday morning the 20th. I'll be with her on my Blue Bacchetta Giro recumbent. I'm looking forward to getting over there to ride again, it has been way too long, and the trail is one of the best ones in Florida in my opinion.

Tom, if I hadn't already promised my sons we could go to Brooksville and watch the cycle races there on the 20th, I would be riding the trail then and keeping an eye open for you. My older son is so excited though as they have a children's "race" and he should be able to "compete".

We'll be riding on the 21st too, you are more than welcome to join us. We are an odd looking group when riding together, I ride a blue Bacchetta Giro 26 Recumbent, my friend Phyllis rides a diamond frame, and my friend Bill rides a Trice Recumbent Trike in red. We're pretty easy to recognize when we get on the trail. Depending on events on Saturday, we will probably ride to the north end and back on Sunday, leaving from the Central Motel in Inverness.

we were on the trail this AM but I saw so many recumbents that I didn't want to sound silly and ask if they were "Tracktor Tom". We rode from Inverness to Floral City and stopped for a few. We were back in Inverness by around 12:30 or so. Hope you had a good ride. We really enjoyed the weather today and lots of people out riding. Great day.

Inverness to the northern terminus is a nice ride. Remember to take a pic of the "bullshark" hanging from the tree when you pass the little industrial park area.

And there is the pink elephant across 41 from the trail that makes you wonder if maybe, just maybe, you have been riding too long. I generally end up sticking to the southern ends of the trail from Floral City to the southern terminus as I don't live terribly far away from the Ridge Manor Trailhead.

That pink elephant is a hoot. When we were in FL last Feb/March we drove past it several times a week. My wife never had the courage to stop and venture into the place. You can't see it from the trail but farther down 41 near downtown Inverness is a pink dump truck. Maybe the truck and elephant are owned by the same person.
