ChicoVelo Tour of the Unknown Valley

Yaaaa! Me and the wife are heading down to Chico for this ride on sat! We are both so excited to get out. Will be staying overnight so we can soak in the hot springs and fill up on cheese and wine pre-ride

let me know if anyone other tandem couples going and might want to meet up for a glass of wine or a bite to eat

Hoping for some sunshine

Born and raised in Chico. Have a great ride, it's a beautiful area.

That looks to be a very nice ride on a tandem. It's a bit far to go spur of the moment, but I'm putting it on my organized ride spreadsheet for next year. The Chico area has some very nice riding based on our Wildflower 100K experience last year. We're skipping this year to do the Wine Country Century, but I'm sure we'll be back at the Wildflower next year. BAW, enjoy the ride; hope you stay dry!

We are in Willows Ca currently at Thunderhill Raceway right on a portion of the course you'll be riding on Sunday. FWIW the forecast today was for 80% chance of rain...we got NONE. the forecast tomorrow is 80% again, but for Sunday the news is much better with only possible showers in the late afternoon...the only down side is the winds here for the last two days have been brutal.
Weather aside...this is a great area to ride especially this time of year and Chico Velo does a great job with their events.....we've enjoyed both in the past. Hope you have a great ride...wave when you go by!

This is a very cool loop, though the weather means this ride is only doable about 1/2 the time.

Helps to carry some wide rubber for the gravel/pave sections. A thudbuster can also be your stoker's friend.

Ahmen to that! One of the sections has more pot holes than pavement!

What section might that be?

We're liking the Willows up to Elk City section as it has been good to us.... but we would like to avoid any ugly stuff if we extend from there, so any specifics would be appreciated...

BTW...The Weather is looking go for tomorrow am at the moment!

Sorry for not getting back to you, we are travelling and internet is sketchy. It's been 8 or 9 years since we did the ride, but as I recall it was the flat section maybe an hour out of willows before the 1st climb.

Hope you have a great day on the bike.

lots of fun today! Proud of the wife, 3rd ride on the Tandem and she completed the Tour of the Unknown Coast today (80 miles) that included a strong headwind the last 10 miles or so and the occasional shower...she wants to know when she gets to go on a ride with warmth & sunlight ;-)

Kudos to both of you...we were still in Willows on Sunday and with the way the major cold winds and light rain kept passing through we were real glad not to be riding that day. You guys are hard core!! ...................nice C'dale btw.
