Road bike computer issue

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Road bike computer issue

So, this is the first computer I buy for my road bike, a Cateye Urban Wireless. First time I take it out, it says my max speed was 65.9 mph.

Am I really that fast ? Or is interference in wireless computers more of a problem than I had imagined ?

Did you set the correct wheel size? Did the speed seem excessive throughout the entire ride or did it just spike once?

I have a cateye wireless has 6100 miles on it with the bike. Once in a huge down and wind at the back I hit 39.3. I live in the flatlands and am a decent wrench, and ride ok for an fellow over 50. I say something is wrong with the computer.

You were picking up electronic interference at an intersection. red light.

We were stopped one day at a light and my friend said: Look 75 mph.

I set the correct wheel size, even went for the more specific method of setting it. The speed only spiked during a downhill.

Yes, there was an intersection.

Is this something that would happen everytime ?

If so that kinda sucks. Because any time your max speed is set so high, it just killed the feature for the entire ride.

My Cateye Double Wireless did that to me. It registered something in the high thirties as I was slowing down to a stop. I called Cateye to see about returning it and they told me to reset the transmitter and pair the transmitter and receiver to a different number. I haven't had any problems with it since.

What does that mean "pair to a different number"?

Parked my bike next to an ice machine at a rest break. Looked down and I was doing 99mph. Anything with an electric motor will give a bad reading.

You sure you're measuring miles and not kilometers? Or, perhaps you mistakenly installed two magnets on the wheel.
