new Canti brake wont fit on Canti post
Title says it all.. I'm putting new canti brakes (Tektro720) on my 92' Cannondale RT2000 (tandem). The rear set went on just fine. Front set I had to hammer the friggen old brakes off and the new ones won't slide on. I dont think i've bent the canti post.... no visible damage to anything. Any suggestions?

I ran into something similar to this on my high sierra. Every time I tightened the brakes down, the end of the posts would deform and stop them from pivoting, and made the brakes nearly impossible to remove. I finally ended up filing a slight bevel onto the ends of the posts, and once tightened they were fine and functioned perfectly.,,,,BD

Somewhere along the way, probably in order to balance the brakes, somebody over-tightened it, and "bell-mouthed" the ends. A Dremel tool is probably the quickest way to grind the circumference flat.

The 720's are excellent! I recently got some Avid Shorty 4's, and they work equally well. They don't look quite as cool though.,,,,BD

I just wasted about an hour, trying to straighten out a pair of old Shimano cantis. I was looking at those Tektros, and was trying to wait a bit, but I think I'll just break down and get some. I'll just wait till tomorrow now, for a test ride, but I got the old Peugeot rideable today, just no front brakes.

I like the CR720s, too. Put 'em on my C-Dale ST that a PO had equipped with U-brakes. (Those were great stoppers, but no modulation. They were so grabby it was actually kind of dangerous. Never seen anything like on bikes.) The Tektros are a lot more forgiving and feel much more what I'm used to.

Yeah I actually started with a pipe brush but this gunk needed more persuasion than that could provide. Small wonder the old brakes worked at all.
