Trexlertown, Pa Fall Velo Swap
This weekend marks that bi-annual Trexlertown Velo Swap. I will be attending, not as a vendor, but as a lurker. Hopefully have a chance to walk around and check out the various items and hang out with some like minded vintage and bobish characters. I will be meeting up with a few individuals from Bicycling magazines to have them take some of my vintage patches and displays for a future article in the mag on cycling world and the previous tradition of providing patches for various bike rides/centuries/events, etc. So I am looking forward to sharing some of my collections with them. Anyone else heading over? Look forward to talking and hanging out.
....OH, and in keeping with a tradition...I think will be raining!

Thanks for the reminder. My daughter has a water polo tournament not far from there and I need to kill about 2 hours between games.
I may need to bring a few swimmers with me in case the water gets too deep.

They are saying this blow will skip right by us here on the coast of NC this time and head North.
Hope it isn't another Sandy event for you all. Lots of rain for us now.
have fun at the swap and good hunting.

Joaquin is predicted to arrive in our neighborhood sometime between Monday morning and Tuesday morning. Isn't the Velo Swap over before then? Maybe this graphic is beyond my comprehension. Wouldn't be the first time.

The weather that preceeds and is associated with that weather system is supposed to dump a lot of rain prior to the storm itself. Hopefully, it just changes direction and goes out to sea.

Seems like the T-town weather forecast changes hourly......earlier today it was 80% chance of rain, later down to 60%, now 4:21 PM 6o to 60%

I'll be at the swamp meet attempting to sell crap. I'll be in booths 142-143 right on turn 4 along with @mainstreetexile and a few other random people. If it's raining I'll be wearing a bright blue Subaru Rally Team with yellow lettering, if it's not raining, I'll be in a red T-shirt w/ a mtb cog on the front. I hope I'm wearing the red t-shirt....

Forecast 48 hours out are sketchy, 4/5 days out....eh? The rain that's running up the coast this weekend is not hurricane related.
Anyway, rain = low attendance, more deals...right?

It depends velognome - it could also mean fewer sellers. Usually it's a buyer market anyway. It is outdoors.

Would love to go but its a long trip and just not in the cards this time around. I always have a good time and have found some awesome stuff there over time.
What's your best grab from T-Town?
Its a hard choice for me but I got an early 80's Panasonic Team frame for 10 bux. It was the end of the day and I saw it lying on a sheet on the ground with no price. I asked the dude "how much" and he says "make and offer.".....I'll give ya ten bux. SOLD!

Rain is a tradition! Hey, last year...I had a booth, stuck it out in the rain all day and at about 3pm when packing up...I scored a Mint, all original 80s Holdsworth Gemini tandem for my wife and I...cost...$415. can't beat that deal! But...the rain down there does make for a miserable day.
What are folks bringing with them?
I have a New roadie wheelset to unload at a good price, a handlebar bag or two, and some other small items. and some patches....that's what I am taking down at least. I am not having a booth this time.

Best grab...I have a couple. Believe it or not...I rarely buy down there. Too much stuff to sell and get off my shelves.
In 2000, I scored a Bianchi Cross bike. Not just a bike but...the last lugged chrome-moly frameset (reparta corsa) in my frame size (58 or 59 c-t) and it was fully built up. I changed over some items and I have that bike to this day. One of the best deals ever! $300. The same guy had a Bianchi road frame fully built up for $300 and a Bianchi Time trial bicycle for $300. If I had the cash...i would have purchased all of them. I got my money back on the cross frame from just selling the wheelset that I would never use. I had a better one already.
Last year, I scored the Holdsworth Tandem in my wife's size and mine.
In the late 90s, I picked up a beat up wheel, circa ?, with rusted up hub and beat up spokes and rust. I picked it up to use to make some wind chimes for our bike shop with worn out chainrings. Turned out the skewer, although rough shape...it polished up to fair condition and it was an open C campy....I got the wheel for $5. Sold the skewer on ebay to a Japanese buyer. cha-cha-ching....

I've had a few - the Montagner, all c-record, for $300 was a good one. $1 tubes...tough to beat. Lots of other fun stuff. The only keeper bike was the Bilenky tandem.

I have attended twice. I only sold and donated what was not sold, to local co-ops. I was able to not buy anything both time.

I'll be there, if for no other reason than to pick up my registration materials for the Fall Classic (Sunday). I'll probably buy some stuff, too - mainly spares for tubular rims and such. Am planning to arrive at LVPCC around 7:30 and will be meeting a few other peoples there as well.
The Fall Classic should be pure, unmitigated evil, as the course was clearly inspired by the same sadistic SOBs that set up the course for the Reading 120. At least we get the wind at our back when we climb the hill up Centennial Drive in Mertztown. The headwind on the way back from Oley Valley is going to suck hard, though.
Nice thing about Velofest is that the deals do still exist. My Colnago Super came from one of the vendors at the Spring market.

I am bringing a nice New in box road wheelset for anyone that is interested. It's a Suzue RDK, very traditional looking and very lightweight, narrow, wheels with Suzue hubs. Works with 8, 9, or 10 speed. $125 takes it. You can find them on the net at $200-215.
I am also bringing a bunch of vintage umbrella pump clamps and tube clamps from REG and Bianchi. And of course patches. But not much else. I'm going to be there for the loitering and wandering about....

Hey, I can't tell from the website - does anybody know if the swap meet is happening tomorrow (Sunday) as well? I've seen mentions of it being one-day and three-day event.
