Did a ride today that I’ve thought about for years but hadn’t ever fit it in: Brookline, MA (where I live; a Boston suburb) to Brookline, NH, and back. I was on a new project.
At the turnaround point:

Productive day today. Got in a vintage drive and a vintage ride. Wish I could have gotten more miles on the bike but the wind was increasing and getting to be much more of an issue so I cut it short.

This ride was actually from a couple of days ago on the 22nd internet has not been friendly the last couple of days.
Really nice weather so I got to take a nice casual ride 20 miles or so on the freshened up Hardrock with new tires, chain, brake shoes and seat post. While not big the little changes really up the already great ride quality quit a bit.

Fun ride today. My elder stepson turned 29 in quasi-isolation over on the Brooklyn-Queens border. I rode downtown, over the Manhattan Bridge and through various northern Brooklyn neighborhoods to get to his place in Ridgewood where I gave him gifts and hugs. He took a rare pic of me with my bike:
From there I needed to get to Astoria to pick up our car from my younger stepson. Going straight there would have been short on miles, so I decided to explore the surprisingly lovely Brooklyn-Queens Greenway section through Forest Park to Flushing Meadows Corona Park, home of the 1939 and 1964 Word's Fairs, Citi Field and Arthur Ashe tennis stadium. I grew up in the area and have memories going back to before the '64 fair and the construction of Shea Stadium. I visited the lake where Aquacade shows were held. I remember going to one of the shows as a child, and it's my first clear memory of a firewworks show. When I saw smoke from the fireworks partially obscuring the moon I thought they blew a hole in it!
From the lake there's a short bridge over the highway to the iconic Unisphere. It's still exciting to see. Before the fair I remember there being a small lake or fountain on the spot. The tennis stadium is in the background.
It was about 5 miles to Astoria from there, more than half of it along the bay and past LaGuardia Airport. 31-32 very pleasant miles.

QHad some beautiful, warm weather for this holiday Sunday. 50+ up to the north.

Lots of folks out on Sheridan, snaking through the ravines.
Water and bathrooms have become a major challenge. Everything is closed and none of the fountains are getting turned on. I already had to mount an extra bottle under the seat, but ran dry for the last 15 miles. Looking into getting a 38oz. bottle.
Water and bathrooms weren't the only thing in short supply. As I was getting ready to head out, I discovered that I was out of cereal bars. Fortunately, I found an acceptable substitute.

I took a ride on the ANC Halfords Team Replica up
to Clevedon today, I had intended to stop on the sea front for a photo but the number of people walking around (with no attempt to maintain social distance) meant I kept going, and rode well out from the pavement.
I came back through Yatton and Churchill, avoiding the Strawberry Line because of the crowds. Nice ride, just over 45 miles in the sunshine, and a lot of people cycling.

I was slower than a three legged turtle swimming up a molasses creek but at least I got 10 miles in. The humidity seems to be up the tep was around 65 according to Strava.
My little slice of heaven here at Shady Pines!! The flowers belong to my neighbor, and I guess I need to find someone to plant some for me. There were some nasty loking semidead bushes and millions of Lilly of the Valey plantswhen I moved in and last week I sort of got roped into helping get rid of them.
I took the Cherry Tomatoe SBX out for her first ride and was pretty happy with her, although she might be too big
. The shifting is a little clunky and it was hard to keep it in the sweet gear. I am not sure if this is adjustment issue a mismatch with the 600 RD and Sachs Rival shifters. They seemed to work fine on the bike I had set up with Sante though. The 39t chain wheel has got to go, I seemd to only be using the bottom 4 gears.

It was incredible!! So many people. It was all a blur and I don't remember much of the scenery, I spent too much time trying to keep track of one or two of the Adults for fear I would get lost and left behind. Still it was a fabulous experience.

24 miles roundtrip different trail by my house. It rained in the wee hours last night so the humidity is spiking upward. Saw three snakes on the trail which the biggest being 3 foot.

Great story and pics! I only ever once rode in NYC. In '80 or was it '79 a cycling club I belonged to went to the 5 Borough Marathon ride and luckily I got to go, although my little brother had to go too It was incredible!! So many people. It was all a blur and I don't remember much of the scenery, I spent too much time trying to keep track of one or two of the Adults for fear I would get lost and left behind. Still it was a fabulous experience.

He didnt ride at all as a kid and hasn't been on a bike in maybe 6 years. 10 years ago I got him a BSA Sports that he liked and rodde a bit but in college he didn't want to use it so we sold it on CL. Now he's in a better area for casual riding, so here he is on our little shakedown ride:

The Hyak Tunnel is finally open now.
The weather was nice on Sunday so I rode up the trail and thru the tunnel for the 1st time this year.
Just east of the Tunnel, the trail runs along the south shore Lake Keechelus.

I exited the trail at the Stampede Pass Road crossing and rode to Lake Kachess finding a nice sunny spot for a picnic lunch on the beach in the Closed Campground.

Even though this is an out n back route, I don’t find it boring or tedious, The views going the other way are enjoyable enough :-)

Cool, what a way to get your baptism in NYC cycling! That would have been when I did my first and only 5-Boro ride. Too many people doing random things. I was living in Flushing again, I moved there after college because it was cheap and familiar. My apartment was near the Kissena velodrome which I frequented.

I remember going on the Parachute Drop ride around 1955 aslo road the the Steeplechase.. My dad worked for the DL&W Railroad and we would take the train down from Binghamton for the day. Baseball or Coney Island

Didn't ride anyplace special yesterday. Ellen and I just puttered around town a bit. The rear wheel on my Dawes kept slipping though, so I kept stopping to snug up the quick release. "Man, this skewer must really be worn. I better swap in something better when we get home." So, that's what I tried to do. Unfortunately, after unscrewing the skewer nut and pulling out the skewer, I was left with a bit more than I was expecting...

The green grasses, wildflowers and mild temperatures of early April are long gone, but it was still the right day to take out a red, white and blue bike for a 55 miler. It was almost 70° at 7:30 and about 90° when I got home at noon.
One of my neighbors puts this up every year, and I always make it a point to ride by.

Sunday I rode a route that I've known about for a year or so but finally decided to give it a go.
Kettle Grand Tour
Longest ride this year at just over 70 miles. The first 50 were awesome - overcast, moody skies and riding through the woods on brand new to me roads was such a treat. The last 20 weren't quite as scenic, and it started getting hot and steamy. I'm glad it wasn't just me that was feeling it though, I did a bit of Strava-stalking since I encountered at least a dozen other riders out and a lot of them had comments on their rides about how it started to get hot!
It was also on that last 20 miles that a gnat flew directly into my eye, and stayed there
Overall it was a good day out, although it really seemed to beat me up. I'm still sore two days later!

It was another scenic shopping trip on the AO-8 today; some groceries for a neighbour plus some fresh strawberries for my wife.
First leg was over to Cheddar to buy a punnet of Cheddar strawberries, then it was over to the farm shop in Berrow via Wedmore, Mark, and Burnham.
Bike loaded up, then back via Brean, onto the cycle trail, over Bleadon Hill, and home. Pint of cider from the farm shop didn't touch the sides.

Of course this was my favorite photo
